Domaine Clos Cibonne
Provence, France
Perched majestically on the Maures mountains, located between Toulon and Hyères, lies a weathered 17th-century country seat, surrounded by vineyards and overlooking the vibrant harbor of Toulon.
Welcome to Clos Cibonne, a name derived from Jean-Baptiste de Cibon, the illustrious captain of Louis XVI’s Royal Navy and the vineyard’s original proprietor. Following Jean-Baptiste’s passing in 1797, the property changed hands and found itself under the stewardship of the Roux family’s ancestors.
In the 1930s, André Roux breathed new life into the vineyard, focusing on the cultivation of the magnificent Tibouren grape variety. After André’s passing in 1989, his daughter Jacqueline and her husband Emile Mourchou lovingly tended to the vineyard for 15 years. Emile, at the age of 60, embarked on a remarkable journey to revitalize the vineyard, purchasing land, replanting Tibouren, and constructing a modern cellar befitting the demands of 21st-century winemaking.
.
.
Throughout these years, Emile wholeheartedly dedicated himself to preserving André Roux’s legacy, passing on the profound knowledge and traditions of Clos Cibonne to his daughter Brigitte and son-in-law Claude, who assumed ownership of the vineyard in 2003. Today, the torch has been passed down to their children and grandchildren, who carry forward the rich tradition of Clos Cibonne, sharing the authentic Tibouren from Pradet with wine enthusiasts worldwide.
The site exudes an undeniable sense of authenticity, preserving its historical connection to the revered Tibouren grape variety. Surrounded by lush vineyards, the cellar and its inviting reception area warmly welcome visitors. Situated along the Mediterranean coast, between Marseille and Nice, Clos Cibonne benefits from its proximity to international airports in Hyères and Marseille, ensuring easy accessibility for visitors from all corners of Europe.
.
.
Spanning 24 hectares, the property boasts captivating views of Toulon’s harbor to the west, as well as the scenic Giens peninsula and the enchanting Porquerolles Island to the east. The coastal 15-hectare vineyard shines with the prominence of the Tibouren grape variety, guaranteeing the quality and authenticity of Clos Cibonne’s wines. Complemented by other grape varieties such as Cinsault, Grenache, and Syrah, Tibouren has flourished in this idyllic Provençal terroir, basking in the region’s favorable climate.
.
.
At the heart of the vineyard lies the mythical cellar, a revered destination for Tibouren enthusiasts, where rosé and red wines age gracefully in century-old casks. This cellar serves as a unique gathering place, inviting wine enthusiasts to savor the delightful offerings of Clos Cibonne. It is the perfect setting to experience both the new and aged vintages, taking a sensory journey through time.
Clos Cibonne stands as a testament to the legacy of passion, authenticity, and reverence for the Tibouren grape variety. Embark on a remarkable wine-tasting experience, where the rich history and exceptional wines of Clos Cibonne blend harmoniously to create an unforgettable moment in the world of Provençal winemaking.
