Matias Riccitelli was born in Cafayate, Salta, a small village in the north of Argentina, where wine culture is deeply ingrained. After moving to Mendoza, he studied winemaking and later became a winemaker for one of the most prestigious wineries in Argentina. Matias traveled extensively, participating in numerous harvests around the world, gaining experience and gathering anecdotes. He eventually decided to combine these experiences with his father and mentor Jorge Riccitelli’s teachings and established Riccitelli Wines in 2009.

The winery is situated in Las Compuertas, the highest area of Lujan de Cuyo, at an elevation of 1100 meters above sea level, with 20 hectares of ungrafted old vineyards. They also work with minor growers who own vineyards in the bottom of the Andes in Gualtallary, Chacayes, Vistalba, Las Compuertas, and La Carrera, ranging from 1000 to 1700 meters above sea level.

In 2015, Riccitelli Wines launched a new project to revive old vineyards in the Argentine Patagonia, including Semillon, Merlot, and Malbec. These vineyards were planted in the late 1960s and are situated in the Rio Negro high valley.

All of their harvests are done by hand to maintain the integrity of each cluster of grapes. The grapes are then placed in small concrete vats to ensure the best expression of the terroir and to maintain the highest purity and delicacy during the winemaking and aging process. Riccitelli Wines aim to create vibrant wines that showcase the great potential of Argentine winemaking, with a diversity of soils heavily influenced by altitude.
