Wine Leaders' Choice

Cachapoal Valley, Chile

In 2004 Alex and Carrie VIK set out with the audacious goal of making one of the world’s best wines. After a 2-year scientific search they found the best terroir in South America in Millahue (Cachapoal Valley) of Chile, a beautiful country dedicated to producing world-class wines.

VIK vineyard was born amidst the foothills of the Andes mountains, within the Millahue Valley, named “Lugar de Oro” or “Golden Place” by the native Mapuche people: 4,300 hectares of astonishing Chilean wilderness where they planted over 327 hectares of vines.

VIK’s terroir offers a majestic and natural landscape composed of 12 valleys, each one with its own micro-climate, distinct exposures, all within a wind-tunnel cooled by Pacific coastal breezes and winds from high up in the Andes mountains that provide VIK with enormous complexity and exceptional variety.

Carrie Vik

Women Wine Leaders

In 2004, Norwegian entrepreneur Alex Vik and his wife Carrie founded Viña Vik with the aim of making the finest wine in South America. They first met at a small gathering of mutual friends at Harvard University during their second year. The couple spent several years searching for the best location that would enable them to produce the very best wines, ensuring that the sites they chose were well-suited to each grape variety that they planned to grow. With the guidance of revered Chilean winemaker, Cristián Vallejo (who previously worked at Château Margaux), a thousand acres of vineyards of predominantly Bordeaux grapes were planted in a range of sites within the Millahue Valley in Chile’s Colchagua province. (Millahue means “place of gold” in the indigenous Mapuche language).
