Erasmo Viña is the Must-Visit Winery in Chile

By WIA3 Mins Read

The cellar of “La Reserva de Caliboro” was built at the end of the XIX century with the purpose of producing wines for the Caliboro estate. The structure, made of thick mud brick walls, gently opening on the surrounding land, is composed of three high impressive naves. The mud walls provide amazing insulation during both summer and winter creating an ideal place for winemaking.

An Ambitious Revival

In 2005, after few years of inactivity and the birth of “La Reserva de Caliboro”, Count Francesco Marone Cinzano decided to rebuild the impressive structure with an ambitious project. He aimed to redeem an emblematic symbol of the local Chilean rural patrimony by the conservation and the restoration of the building. He gave great care to the surrounding environment and introduced the most modern winemaking equipment imported from Italy.

This cellar, combining ancient and modern elements, is the outcome and the frame of Count Marone’s exciting project: the rigorous research of high standards in the making of high quality wines where the secular experience of family tradition in winemaking combines with the constant attention given to the contribution of modern technology.

Today, on this historic land still rich in native vegetation and wildlife, they planted a chosen selection of Cabernets and Merlot, brought especially from Europe for the purpose of creating Erasmo, a blend of the best Andean mother earth and the ancient tradition of the family in producing quality wines.

What makes this area so special is a combination of intense luminosity from consecutive months of clear skies, fresh dry southerly winds that blow all through the warm seasons, yet just enough rainfall to allow dry farming.

Outstanding Organic Wine From Chile

Their most traditional blends acquire a unique character thanks to the aromas of boldos, peumos, wild roses and other native plants that thrive on the riverbanks surrounding the vineyard.
