Opus One Winery

Winery Star

Wine Leaders' Choice

California, USA

Opus One Winery, located next to Napa’s renowned Oakville Grocery, was established by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild with the goal of creating an ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux blend that would rival the best cru classé wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Opus One’s iconic status is immediately evident upon entering the grounds, from the elegant colonnaded reception building to the immaculate gardens, every detail of the winery reflects an uncompromising commitment to quality that is mirrored in its wines.

The winery building is a combination of classical European motifs and uniquely Californian touches, reflecting Opus One’s blending of Old World and New World sensibilities. The exterior is made of limestone, including the impressive neoclassical colonnaded porch, representing the French half of the partnership, while American white oak and California Redwood represent the winery’s Californian heritage.

While undergoing a major renovation project, Opus One still offers private tasting experiences by appointment. The winery’s team of wine educators provides a detailed history of the winery, its winemaking, and vineyard practices before guiding guests through multiple vintages of the iconic Opus One. Here, visitors can witness the wine’s evolution with age while maintaining its hallmark balance of structure and texture.

Opus One’s dedication to detail and quality in winemaking and architecture has created an iconic winery and wine that are renowned worldwide.
