Perrin Family

Orange, France

The Perrin family, a prominent member of the Primum Familiae Vini (PFV) association, has been cultivating their love for wine for several generations. Their remarkable story begins in the early twentieth century with the acquisition of the Château de Beaucastel, a true gem of the renowned Chateauneuf Pape region.

In 1909, Pierre Tramier became the proud owner of the estate. Building upon his legacy, his son-in-law, Pierre Perrin, and later his son, Jacques Perrin, worked tirelessly to develop Beaucastel and its vineyards. Today, the fifth generation of the Perrin family continues to carry forward their profound passion for winemaking.

What sets the Perrin family apart is their unwavering commitment to cultivating the talents of each family member while upholding common values. At the heart of their philosophy lies an absolute respect for the terroir and soils, embracing biodynamics as a way of life, and striving for precision, balance, and elegance in every bottle they produce.

For the Perrin family, “terroir” is not merely a word but a guiding principle. Across all their properties, they approach each vineyard with the same meticulous care, ensuring the terroir is respected and allowed to express itself authentically. Respecting the terroir encompasses cherishing the soil, the environment, and the historical significance of the land. Their aim is to uncover and preserve the authenticity and uniqueness of each vineyard, allowing the wines to reflect the hidden treasures of their distinctive locations.

To achieve the best expression of terroir, the Perrin family believes in nurturing the soil and tending to it with utmost care. This commitment to sustainability dates back to 1950 when they began organic cultivation of their vineyards. In 1974, they took a further leap by adopting biodynamic practices at Château de Beaucastel. Today, their dedication to farming in harmony with the soil’s resources, fauna, and flora is paying off.

The grapes thrive, offering a unique taste that unveils the essence of their aromas and the magnificence of their origins. Each day, on every plot owned by the Perrin family, the focus is on stimulating the plant’s physiology and natural resilience. This carefully preserved ecosystem grants their wines an unparalleled combination of power, structure, elegance, and freshness.

Being part of the PFV association further highlights the Perrin family’s standing in the wine world. PFV, also known as Primum Familiae Vini or “Leading Wine Families,” is an esteemed international association consisting of select wine-producing families from France, Germany, Italy, Portugal, and Spain. Founded in 1992, PFV membership is by invitation only, with a maximum of 12 highly respected families contributing generations of expertise. The primary objective of PFV members is to uphold and promote the traditions and values of family-owned wine companies, ensuring the preservation and prosperity of these ideals for future generations.

The Perrin family’s dedication to their craft, respect for the land, and commitment to preserving their heritage have solidified their position as one of the leading wine families in the world. Their wines embody the essence of their terroir and reflect the unwavering pursuit of excellence that has been passed down through generations.
