Champagne Dom Caudron
Reims, France
In Passy-Grigny, a village in the Marne Valley, Champagne Dom Caudron traces its roots to a visionary priest named Aimé Caudron. Known for his love of food and wine, he saw the potential in the local vine growers’ wines served at everyday meals. In 1929, Dom Caudron proposed a simple idea: “Let’s combine our skills!”
With a generous donation and the support of Dom Caudron, 23 vine growers joined forces, pooling their resources and knowledge. They obtained a production site, tools, and pressing equipment to showcase their shared passion: the Meunier grape.
Meunier became the signature grape of these vine growers. Their expertise in this grape variety led to a range of champagnes that highlighted its fruity personality, from simple to complex. What began as a 12-hectare vineyard has now expanded to over 130 hectares in the Marne Valley.
.
.
Over the years, more than 60 vine growers have joined the movement, continuing Dom Caudron’s legacy of cooperation and promotion. Together, they fuel their passion and combine their skills to delight everyone.
Champagne Dom Caudron practices an integrated cultivation process in Passy-Grigny, creating wines that reflect the unique terroir of the region. Tasting their champagnes transports you to the elegant charm of Passy-Grigny.
During the grape harvest, vine growers come together at the press center. The Champagne Dom Caudron vat house categorizes juices by grape variety, maturity, and terroir. Careful blending techniques are employed to create the final wines, after profiling the different vineyards.
.
.
The harvest is not only a celebration of their hard work but also an opportunity for wine lovers to experience the behind-the-scenes of Champagne Dom Caudron. Activities and events allow visitors to immerse themselves in the world of winemaking.
The dedication of the vine growers and the team of Champagne Dom Caudron ensures the quality of their wines. Throughout the year, they monitor the vineyards and tanks to reveal the full potential of future champagnes.
.
.
One of the highlights is tasting the base wine, where the team reunites to shape the final blend. Dom Caudron also offers a glimpse into their winemaking secrets, with tours showcasing vintage wine presses, a film about the vine and winemaking, and a 3D photo gallery.
The legacy of Dom Caudron lives on through six gourmet champagnes. With each sip, you can taste the combined expertise and passion of the vine growers and the team behind Champagne Dom Caudron.
