Top 5 foods to accompany wine

What’s a home-cooked meal without an equally palate-pleasing bottle of wine to pair with it—or vice versa? Some dishes just seem to taste even more delicious when they’re accompanied by the right vino, but finding the perfect bottle to complement your meal isn’t always easy. Not only do you have to think about the weight and richness of the food, but you also have to consider the pungency and flavor profile of the individual ingredients.

Here are some of the best wine pairing dishes that will delight the most discerning gourmets among you!

Of course, it’s fun to experiment and fine-tune, and with experience you may be able to create spectacular matches that dramatically improve both the dish and the wine. But save those efforts for special occasions and special wines.

1. Figs & Walnut Wine

Figs blended with our own D’oro fortified walnut wine, which we make with green walnuts grown on our farm here in Langley, BC. The Preservatory is owned and operated by Lee Murphy and her partner and husband, Patrick is the winemaker and farmer who supplies all the fresh fruit for the delicious preserves. Our preserves have been featured in Country Living magazine, enRoute, Canadian Living, and many other publications, and are available across North America, Harrods of London and other fine retailers in Europe.

Our preserves, which are far from ordinary, take old favourites to new heights and different flavours are created for each season, highlighting the in-season locally grown fruit found at Vista D’oro and other farms throughout the province of BC in Canada. Jammin’ season is always in full swing here a the farm! Our preserves, which are far from ordinary, take old favourites to new heights with original and creative flavour combinations.  Different flavours are created for each season, highlighting the in-season locally grown fruit found at Vista D’oro and other farms throughout the province of BC in Canada.

2. Spiced Cranberry & Iced Apple Wine

So Canadian! Perfect with Turkey and just as delicious over warm camembert.

Our preserves, which are far from ordinary, take old favourites to new heights with original and creative flavour combinations.  Different flavours are created for each season, highlighting the in-season locally grown fruit found at Vista D’oro and other farms throughout the province of BC in Canada. Using ‘at their peak’ in-season fruits, much of which is grown right on our farm, Vista D’oro. Our delicious and versatile preserves are meant for pairing and sharing; served on a cheese board, as a glaze for roast meats or simply alongside fresh baked scones. We’ve been proudly making fruit shine since 2002.

3. Steak Butters

A perfectly grilled steak doesn’t need much — just a pinch of seasoning and a fiery grill. Some people might even say that topping a sizzling, juicy steak with melty truffle butter is over the top. Those people would be wrong. Studded with real black and white truffles and roasted garlic, these butters will quickly promote the grillmaster in your life to Grill Chef.

Get the high-end steakhouse experience at home with this gourmet assortment of flavored butters. Put a pat of our White Truffle, Black Truffle, or Roasted Garlic Herb Butter directly on top of a well-rested steak. If you prefer to cook your steak in a cast-iron pan — after you take the steak off the heat, deglaze the pan with a swirl of butter for an out-of-this world pan sauce!

4. Spiced Apple & Gewurztraminer
