Domaine Magnien

Morey-Saint-Denis, France

Frédéric Magnien is renowned as a talented winemaker and the heir to the Domaine Michel Magnien, where he crafts exceptional wines in the Côte de Nuits region of Burgundy. Guided by a holistic approach, Frédéric made a bold decision in 2010 to embrace biodynamic viticulture, a philosophy that perfectly complements Burgundy’s terroir and elevates the quality of his wines. Through this practice, the harmonious interplay between nature, the vine grower, and the wines becomes apparent in each glass.

Frédéric’s winemaking journey began working alongside his father at the Michel Magnien Domaine in Morey-Saint-Denis. After gaining valuable experience abroad, he returned in 1995 to establish his own winemaking business. Rather than owning vineyards, Frédéric chose to collaborate closely with local growers, carefully selecting grapes from older vines to ensure the highest quality. His unwavering commitment to organic viticulture, following the moon cycles, and his deep respect for the terroir contribute to the exceptional purity found in his wines. The estate obtained organic certification in 2008, with a strong focus on sustainable practices overseen by Ecocert.

In addition to organic farming, Frédéric embraced biodynamic viticulture, which aims to revitalize the soil and forge a stronger connection between plants and their environment. By considering cosmic elements and the moon phases, he nurtures healthier vines and produces superior-quality grapes. Frédéric’s wines truly embody the essence of Burgundy, thanks to his meticulous observation of plants and soil, and his unwavering adherence to biodynamic principles.

Alongside his winemaking practices, Frédéric employs a unique wine aging method that combines wood and terracotta. For the exceptional 2015 vintage, he opted for hand-turned terracotta jars that have no impact on the wine’s aroma. This approach allows him to craft organic wines that showcase the natural purity of the fruit and the soil. The combination of wood and terracotta aging enhances the character and refinement of his cuvées, resulting in wines that are both distinctive and crystalline.

Club Magnien brings together Frédéric Magnien’s most devoted and passionate customers. This exclusive membership program rewards private clients with exclusive benefits, including access to preferential prices, private visits to the tasting cellar, Primeur offers, and invitations to special events. Club Magnien privileges are reserved exclusively for a limited number of members.

Frédéric Magnien’s winemaking journey is a testament to his unwavering dedication and passion for crafting exceptional wines that embody the essence of Burgundy. With each bottle, he invites wine enthusiasts to experience the artistry and harmony of his wines, meticulously crafted with respect for nature and the terroir. Frédéric Magnien is truly an alchemist, transforming grapes into liquid expressions of the finest flavors found in Burgundy’s Côte de Nuits. Through the establishment of Club Magnien, he strengthens the bond with his loyal customers, offering them exclusive access and privileges that celebrate their shared passion for his remarkable wines.
