Bodegas Luzon
Murcia, Spain
In the heart of Jumilla, a remarkable story unfolds as Don José de Molina returns from the enchanting island of Luzon in the Philippines to retire in his hometown. Inspired by the years spent on Luzon, he names his property “Finca Luzón” as a tribute to the cherished island. Don José’s passing in 1863 marks the beginning of a captivating lineage, with the lands being passed down through generations along the female branch of the family.
Ana Josefa, his firstborn daughter, inherits the property, continuing the legacy by bequeathing it to her own daughter and so on. The reins of Finca Luzón are eventually taken up by Mrs. Carmen Guillén, followed by her eldest daughter, Amparo Molina Guillén, who manages the estate until 1980. It is during this time that the Molina family sells the property and winery to Don Juan José Martínez Abellán (affectionately known as Piquito), rekindling the winemaking tradition.

The Fuertes family later acquires the winery, embracing the rich heritage of Bodegas Luzón while infusing it with modern infrastructure and investments to adapt to the evolving times. Deeply rooted in its origins, Bodegas Luzón takes immense pride in its affiliation with D.O.P Jumilla as one of the leading producers and exporters of the region since its inception by Don José de Molina.
The captivating history of Bodegas Luzón becomes even more extraordinary with Don José de Molina’s decision to establish a tradition of linking the inheritance of his lands and estate exclusively to the female lineage—a practice that continues until the mid-1980s.

At the heart of Bodegas Luzón’s winemaking philosophy lie four essential elements. Firstly, the variety of grapes, with the regal Monastrell taking center stage as a true reflection of the winery’s historical progress, reaching its pinnacle in the elevated terrains of Jumilla. The unique calcareous-sandy soils of the region provide an ideal foundation for cultivating our Monastrell grapes, infusing them with unparalleled character.
Furthermore, the climate, in harmony with these poor soils, fosters the healthy maturation of our grapes, warding off any potential diseases and allowing us to practice sustainable viticulture. Alongside these vital elements, there is a fifth crucial aspect—a devoted team, driven by the continuous pursuit of improving each vintage, year after year.
.
.
As custodians of tradition and stewards of the land, we hold ourselves accountable to the principles of sustainability. Our commitment extends from farming practices to winemaking processes and waste management, aiming to minimize our ecological footprint and preserve the delicate balance of our ecosystem.
Bodegas Luzón is not just a winery; it is an embodiment of heritage, a testament to the land it calls home. It is our duty to nurture this legacy and uphold the values of sustainability that lie at the core of our existence. With each passing year, Bodegas Luzón strives to create wines that capture the essence of our terroir, paying homage to our roots and ensuring a vibrant future for generations to come.
