Archery Summit
Dayton, USA
In 1993, Gary Andrus embarked on a journey fueled by his passion for Pinot Noir and the remarkable potential he saw in Oregon’s Willamette Valley. With its similar growing conditions to Burgundy, France, and a reputation for producing some of the world’s finest Pinot Noir, the Dundee Hills caught his attention. Thus, Archery Summit was born, bringing together Andrus’ winemaking expertise and a commitment to showcasing the unique terroir of the region.
Having already established a successful career as a winemaker in Napa Valley, Andrus honed his skills at Pine Ridge Vineyards before venturing into the Willamette Valley. At Pine Ridge, he specialized in vineyard-designate wines, creating wines that intimately expressed the essence of their origin. This commitment to site-specific winemaking continues to shape the philosophy at Archery Summit.
.
Over the years, Archery Summit has carefully curated a collection of vineyards, comprising five estate vineyards and three grower sites across four distinct American Viticultural Areas (AVAs). Pinot Noir remains the focus, as the variety beautifully reflects the nuances of terroir. With a quarter century of winemaking experience, Archery Summit has played a vital role in elevating the reputation of Willamette Valley wines and is poised to take it even further.
The Willamette Valley itself is a renowned winegrowing region, stretching from Portland to Eugene. Named after the river that flows through it, this picturesque valley boasts several appellations, each with its own unique characteristics. Among them, the Dundee Hills holds a special place, with its volcanic soils and high-elevation terrain providing an ideal environment for cultivating exceptional Pinot Noir.
.
Archery Summit is committed to sustainable and responsible practices as stewards of the land. The winery believes in minimal-impact agriculture, recognizing the importance of sustainability in preserving the future of the industry and the overall well-being of the environment.
Many of their vineyard sites are certified as LIVE (Low Input Viticulture & Enology), adhering to rigorous sustainability standards. These guidelines prioritize minimal spraying, careful clone selection, biodiversity, and other practices that promote the vineyard’s health and vitality.
.
The winery’s dedication to environmental stewardship extends beyond the vineyards. At the winery itself, Archery Summit strives to minimize electricity usage, utilizes environmentally-friendly packaging, and maintains a robust recycling program. Embracing their role as custodians of a special place and as members of a vibrant community, they embrace these environmental and social responsibilities with utmost care.
Archery Summit’s unwavering commitment to terroir-driven winemaking, sustainable practices, and community engagement has positioned them as a leader in the Willamette Valley wine scene. Their wines speak eloquently of the land, showcasing the unique characteristics and flavors that make the region so exceptional. As they continue their journey, Archery Summit remains dedicated to crafting exquisite Pinot Noir that reflects the spirit and soul of the Willamette Valley.
