Bodegas Ecudero
La Rioja, Spain
In the quaint village of Grávalos, an extraordinary tale unfolds, spanning generations of unwavering devotion to the art of winemaking. Many years ago, the great-grandfather Juan embarked on a remarkable journey, crafting wine in a small cave hewn out of the mountainside. Fueled by a shared passion, his son Amador joined him, and together, they nurtured their vineyards and cultivated their love for winemaking.
Born into this rich heritage, Benito Escudero, their son, witnessed firsthand the relentless dedication of his father and grandfather. The tireless toil in vine cultivation, the deep respect for nature, and the meticulous craftsmanship left an indelible imprint on his soul. This profound influence sparked his curiosity and led him to study oenology at esteemed institutions such as the Requena School of Oenology and the Villafranca del Penedés School of Oenology. His thirst for knowledge and desire to explore the latest cultivation and winemaking techniques drove him to the renowned wine regions of Bordeaux and Champagne in France.
.
.
It was during these transformative journeys that Benito’s vision for future projects took shape. However, fate had a different path in store for him. A motorbike accident threatened to shatter his dreams, but through unwavering determination, Benito overcame adversity. Life granted him a second chance, and he was determined to make the most of it. With resolute ambition, he set out to create his own sparkling wine using the traditional Champenoise method. Undeterred by countless trials and setbacks, he persisted until he triumphed, becoming one of the pioneering winemakers to join the esteemed D.O. Cava. His lifelong dream had become a reality, but the most important chapter remained unwritten—he had yet to share his creation with the world. With unwavering dedication, he continued his endeavors, ensuring that his golden bubbles accompanied people in their moments of celebration.
Inspired by their father’s indomitable spirit, Benito’s children embraced his legacy. They inherited the same passion for vineyard care, reverence for nature, and commitment to producing exceptional wines, cavas, vermouths, and olive oils. Motivated by this profound connection to their ancestral past, they decided to carry forward the family project, preserving their heritage and instilling the same love for wine in future generations.
.
.
Today, the Escudero family oversees four esteemed wineries: Bodegas Escudero in Grávalos, dedicated to crafting Cavas; Bodegas Vinsacro in Pradejón, renowned for their exceptional D.O.Ca. Rioja wines; Hacienda Logos in Castejón, and Bodegas Escudero in Monteagudo, both belonging to D.O. Navarra. These distinct facilities enable them to produce a diverse range of products that cater to discerning palates worldwide.
Their mission is to bring their exceptional offerings closer to enthusiasts everywhere. Their wines grace the glasses of connoisseurs in over 38 countries worldwide. From an early age, they were taught that wine embodies far more than a mere beverage—it encapsulates culture, art, and the profound bond between humankind and nature. It symbolizes the culmination of unwavering dedication and relentless effort over the years.
.
.
At the heart of their work philosophy lies the personalized care of each vineyard plot. They understand that the grapes themselves are the true protagonists, each unique variety deserving of individual attention to cultivate its distinct personality and unlock its full potential. From Tempranillo, Grenache, and Mazuelo to Graciano, Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Chardonnay, and Viura, their vineyards are a treasure trove of grape varieties that lend character to their wines, cavas, and vermouths. Each grape is lovingly nurtured to enhance its unique qualities, resulting in products that truly captivate the senses.
However, their most prized vineyards, Vidau, hold a special place in the family’s heart. These centenary estates were planted by the first generations of the Escudero family and boast a carefully balanced blend of Tempranillo, Garnacha, Mazuelo, Graciano, and Monastrell grapes. This exceptional coupage is meticulously transferred from the vineyard to the bottle, giving rise to wines that exude unparalleled character and serve as a testament to the family’s enduring legacy.
Embark on an extraordinary journey as you immerse yourself in the captivating saga of the Escudero family’s winemaking legacy. Experience the history, passion, and unwavering commitment that have shaped their remarkable story. Raise your glass and revel in the timeless spirit that flows through each bottle—a spirit eager to be shared, appreciated, and cherished.
