Castello di Amorosa is one of Napa Valley’s most unique wineries. At over 136,000 square feet, the authentically-built 13th-century Tuscan-style castle and winery offers a variety of tour options including Reserve wine tours, food and wine pairing tours and a cheese and wine tour.

Castello di Amorosa is the realization of an all-consuming passion. Fourth generation winemaker Dario Sattui built an authentically styled 13th century Tuscan castle winery to honor his Italian heritage and deep love for medieval architecture. It is considered an architectural masterpiece with all the elements of an authentic medieval castle: a moat, drawbridge, five towers, high defensive ramparts, courtyards and loggias, a chapel, stables, an armory, and even a torture chamber.

3. Jordan Vineyard & Winery

Established in 1974 by a couple with a passion for French wine and style, Jordan Vineyard and Winery is now a deluxe hillside retreat that combines artisanal food with a contemporary chateau feel. Guests signed up to the loyalty program can enjoy antique touches in the three suites, with the premium Vendange Suite featuring a palatial free-standing bath and views of the vineyards and the tank room’s oak casks.

Despite covering a vast 485 hectares, only just under 50 hectares of the estate is planted to vines, allowing the rest to grow wild to support the natural flora and fauna. The estate is certified sustainable, and its electricity is fully carbon-neutral thanks to its commitment to solar power. Jordan’s food is also sustainably sourced, with much of it foraged from or produced on the grounds, including the Jordan Estate honey and olive oil from trees planted in the 1990s.

4. Bergström

.

At Bergström Wines, a family’s dream and a legacy in winemaking have come to life. Founded by John and Karen Bergström, their journey began with a vision to establish a business that would endure through generations and honor John’s agricultural upbringing in Sweden. Settling in Dundee, they planted the Bergström Vineyard on a beautiful south-facing slope, marking the start of their winemaking adventure.

The pivotal moment arrived in 1999 when their son, Josh Bergström, returned from a prestigious program in Viticulture and Enology in France with his fiancée Caroline. Together, they harvested their first vintage of Pinot Noir, giving birth to Bergström Wines. Today, Josh serves as the winery’s general manager and winemaker, while Caroline skillfully manages the sales team.

5. Opus One

.

Opus One Winery, located next to Napa’s renowned Oakville Grocery, was established by Robert Mondavi and Baron Philippe de Rothschild with the goal of creating an ultra-premium Cabernet Sauvignon-based Bordeaux blend that would rival the best cru classé wines of Bordeaux’s Left Bank. Opus One’s iconic status is immediately evident upon entering the grounds, from the elegant colonnaded reception building to the immaculate gardens, every detail of the winery reflects an uncompromising commitment to quality that is mirrored in its wines.

The winery building is a combination of classical European motifs and uniquely Californian touches, reflecting Opus One’s blending of Old World and New World sensibilities. The exterior is made of limestone, including the impressive neoclassical colonnaded porch, representing the French half of the partnership, while American white oak and California Redwood represent the winery’s Californian heritage.

6. Ridge Vineyards

.

Ridge Vineyards Monte Bello is a celebrated winery that played a significant role in the 1976 “Judgment of Paris,” which pitched six Californian wines against top Bordeaux and Burgundies in a blind tasting by industry experts, and emerged as the victor. This pivotal moment in the international perception of New World wines put to rest any notion of their inferiority to the Old World. In a rematch 30 years later, Ridge came out on top again, cementing its reputation as a trailblazer in Californian winemaking.

Located in the Santa Cruz Mountains, south of San Francisco, the steep terrain of Monte Bello Ridge gives the vineyards a rugged air and a unique microclimate that allows the grapes to receive bright and powerful sunlight despite the coolness of altitude. The winery produces single vineyard wines made from some of the oldest and best vines in the country, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Zinfandel, Chardonnay, and Rhone varietals, which are known for their notable aging potential.

7. Robert Mondavi Winery

.

Robert Mondavi is a true icon of American winemaking, renowned for his creation of the Fumé Blanc style of wine and his decision to establish his eponymous winery alongside California’s beloved To Kalon vineyard. To visit his estate is to step back in time and walk through history.

The To Kalon Reserve range offers a breathtaking tasting experience, personalized for each guest and enjoyed on a patio with stunning views of the Mayacamas Mountains. This vineyard, which translates to “highest beauty” in Greek, was first planted in 1868 and is widely considered one of America’s First Growth sites. It is particularly known for its exceptional Bordeaux varietals, particularly Cabernet Sauvignon. Robert Mondavi himself said that walking through To Kalon was an almost mystical experience.

8. William Chris Vineyards

.

William Chris Vineyards is a collaboration between two passionate winemakers, William “Bill” Blackmon and Chris Brundrett, who share a vision for the Texas wine industry. They believe that great wines are grown in the vineyard, not made, and that wine should be enjoyed with friends and family. Since 2008, they have been working together to produce high-quality wines that represent the very best of Texas. The winery is also a member of 23 of the leading wine regions of the world, which supports the global effort to uphold the integrity of each winegrowing region and their place names.

The winemaking process at William Chris Vineyards begins with the harvest, which requires an understanding of chemistry, a well-developed palate, and farmer’s intuition. Mother nature also plays a significant role, as weather patterns can impact the balance of acidity, sugar content, and flavor profiles in a finished wine. The winemakers carefully monitor each grape, picking them at the optimal time to ensure the best possible outcome.

9. Inglenook

.

Since 1879, Inglenook Winery has been a beacon of winemaking excellence in America. The history of Inglenook Winery dates back to 1879, a testament to America’s rich winemaking heritage. This prestigious estate was brought to life by Gustave Niebaum, whose vision was to create wines that could stand shoulder to shoulder with those from Europe’s renowned wineries. Nestled within the esteemed Rutherford appellation in Napa Valley, Inglenook spans a sprawling 1700 acres, including 235 acres of organically certified vineyards, making it one of the few remaining family-owned estates of this magnitude in the United States.

Within the grounds of Inglenook stands the historic Chiles House. Constructed in 1856, it is among the oldest structures in the Napa Valley. This building, which was later moved to the winery, symbolizes the estate’s rich history and the American winemaking tradition.

10. Calera

.

In the realm of winemaking, there are those who dare to dream beyond the norms, those who carve their paths to create something truly extraordinary. Calera Winery is the embodiment of such a visionary endeavor, where the wines crafted not only bear the mark of the land but also speak the language of innovation and courage. At the helm of this exceptional winery is Josh Jensen, a true pioneer in the realm of American Pinot Noir.
.
As the years passed, Calera wines have garnered worldwide acclaim and earned the reverence of enthusiasts and critics alike. Among those who have experienced the sheer brilliance of Calera’s creations is none other than the venerable Robert Parker. His words serve as an unshakable testament to the winery’s mastery: “Calera is one of the most compelling Pinot Noir specialists of not only the New World, but of Planet Earth.

11. Chateau Ste. Michelle

.

Founded on the historic estate of Seattle lumber baron Frederick Stimson in 1912, Chateau Ste. Michelle’s roots reach deep into the past, spanning back to the era of Prohibition. The winery’s establishment marked a significant moment in American history when the Prohibition was repealed, signaling the end of the ban on alcohol and a new chapter for winemaking in the country.

Fast forward to the present day, and Chateau Ste. Michelle stands proudly as a testament to the enduring spirit of winemaking, celebrating over 50 years of dedication and passion for crafting exceptional wines. Over the years, the winery has successfully merged the timeless traditions of Old World winemaking with the innovative techniques of the New World, resulting in wines that are a true reflection of artistry and expertise.

12. Corison

.

Nestled in the heart of Napa Valley, Corison Winery stands as a testament to the love and dedication of Cathy Corison and William Martin, who have crafted a haven for producing exceptional Cabernet Sauvignons. For over three decades, this small family farm has been an embodiment of the region’s charm, celebrating the benchland’s best qualities. With a perfect blend of power and elegance, Corison wines are renowned worldwide for their consistency, longevity, and unique ability to grace any table.

The journey of Corison Winery began in 1987 when Cathy Corison set out on a quest to find the finest Cabernet Sauvignon grapes from prime benchland vineyards between Rutherford and St. Helena. Her unwavering commitment was to create wines that genuinely captured the essence of the land and spoke of its heritage. These vineyards’ well-drained alluvial soils, steeped in viticultural history dating back to the late 1800s, became the foundation for crafting balanced, age-worthy, and world-class wines.

13. DeLille Cellars

.

DeLille Cellars, a renowned winery from premier Grand Cru Washington vineyards, is a leading producer of Bordeaux-style blends in the United States. With a 30-year history, DeLille played a pivotal role in establishing Washington State as a top viticultural region, focusing on Red Mountain AVA and prestigious vineyards within the Columbia Valley. Founded by Chris Upchurch, Jay A. Soloff, Greg Lill, and Charles Lill, the winery’s transformative vision of blending as an art guides their unwavering commitment to excellence, continuous improvement, and crafting exceptional wines and experiences.

DeLille Cellars’ dedication to excellence has garnered them numerous accolades and recognition in the wine industry. Among the first five wineries in Washington to receive Robert Parker’s 5-star excellence rating, they hold a legacy of consistent quality with over 800 individual 90+ ratings from top international critics. The winery’s frequent appearances on Top 100 lists and five Wine & Spirits Top 100 Wineries of the World honors firmly establish DeLille as a benchmark for American winemaking quality.

14. Drew Family

.

In 2000, Jason and Molly Drew founded Drew Winery with a clear vision: crafting exceptional, small-batch wines that showcase the unique attributes of cool climate sites and traditional grape varieties. Their journey led them to a neglected 26-acre apple orchard in Mendocino Ridge Appellation, where others saw challenges, they saw potential – ancient oceanic soils, south-facing slopes at 1250 ft elevation just above the fogline, and a genuine coastal climate with the ocean a mere 3.3 miles away. Embracing this opportunity, they established the Drew estate winery at Faîte De Mer Farm.

At Faîte De Mer Farm, certified organic and following decades of high-standard farming, Jason, a seasoned vigneron with extensive experience in vineyard farming and winemaking, employs traditional methods like whole cluster and native yeast fermentations, hand punchdowns, and minimal fining or filtering. The eight-acre vineyard comprises California heritage field selections, Dijon clones of Pinot Noir, and Chardonnay, all chosen for their climate, clonal variety, and soil complexity. While Faîte De Mer Farm remains their primary focus, Jason and Molly also hold several Anderson Valley & Mendocino Ridge sites in high regard.

15. Duckhorn Vineyards

.

Founded in 1976 by Dan and Margaret Duckhorn, Duckhorn Vineyards has established itself as a premier producer of Napa Valley wines over the course of nearly five decades. Starting with a modest inaugural vintage of 800 cases each of Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot in 1978, the winery expanded its offerings to include Sauvignon Blanc in 1982. The estate’s commitment to quality and excellence has remained steadfast, shaping a tradition that endures to this day. Located in the picturesque St. Helena, the Duckhorn Vineyards Estate House now stands on the original 10-acre property, known as Marlee’s Vineyard, named after Margaret.

In the late 1980s, Duckhorn Vineyards embarked on a mission to acquire vineyard properties across recognized Napa Valley regions, securing enough land to meet their long-term grape needs. Today, they proudly own nine distinctive estate vineyards, each boasting unique attributes that reflect variations in soil, terrain, microclimate, and exposure. The cultivation of these estate properties is carried out with great pride by a dedicated team, including an in-house farming crew comprising full-time and part-time employees. These vineyards have become a cherished part of the winery’s identity, imbuing their wines with a sense of place and a growing tradition.
