1. Marques de Murrieta Winery
.
Marques de Murrieta is an older than 165 years-old winery where the deep respect for the history and the tradition finds a perfect balance with the focus on the future. The uniqueness and quality of the Marques de Murrieta wines is determined, to a great extent, by the singular caracter of the Ygay Estate, 300 hectares of own vineyards located around the winery, which allow the absolute control of the raw material.
The origin of Marqués de Murrieta winery is also the origin of Rioja. Its origin dates from 1852 when Luciano Murrieta y Garcia -Lemoine produces the first fine wine from Rioja and is the first one to export it. He acquires the Ygay Estate and builds his emblematic Ygay Castle. In 1983 Vicente Cebrian Sagarriga, tenth Count of Creixell, takes over the project and after his death in 1996, his children, who are currently responsible of such an ambitious and endearing family business that they strengthen day after day with its presence in the different continents.
2. Marqués de Riscal
.
The Hotel Marqués de Riscal, with its twisted aluminium ribbons shining in purple, gold, and silver, is a Frank Gehry masterpiece in the heart of Rioja wine country. Founded in 1858, this winery bottled the first ever Rioja wines, including the first vintage by the Marquis in 1862. The estate also introduced white wines to the nearby province of Rueda and assisted its elevation to DO status in the 1970s. Marqués de Riscal can furthermore be credited with starting the trend of covering Rioja bottles in golden mesh for authenticity.
As part of the Marriott hotel chain’s Luxury Collection, the Gehry structure opened in 2006, offering 61 rooms, including 10 suites, with tilted walls, zigzagged windows, high ceilings, and a lot of color. The Michelin-starred fine dining restaurant, headed by local superstar chef Francis Paniego, serves a six or nine-course ‘Ideas Land’ menu expertly paired with wines by the sommelier team, with some rare vintages making an appearance too. The hotel also has another restaurant, a wine bar, al fresco grill, and a Caudalie Vinothérapie spa.
3. La Rioja Alta
.
In 1890, La Rioja Alta SA was founded by five families sharing a common passion for wine. It was the start of an ongoing quest for excellence that their descendants still pursue. Since then they have managed to extract the best from the marriage of their tradition in wine ageing, to state-of-the-art technology in grape fermentation. Their wines have become an international reference for the finest Rioja wines.
Nature is the basis of their work and that is why, every day, they renew their commitment to respect and protect it. To do this, they limit treatments in the vineyards, invest in clean energy, reuse water and use corks and boxes managed in a sustainable manner.
4. Casa Agrícola Pepe Mendoza

Pepe Mendoza has 14 hectares of vineyards (planted between 1920 and 1970) where he works the varieties Monastrell, Syrah, Alicante Bouschet (Garnacha Tintorera), Moscatel, and Gironet. All varieties of Mediterranean origin. His philosophy is to seek Mediterranean Purity, that is to say, to extract from each wine the maximum varietal expression.
5. Comando G
.
Windswept landscapes, alpine meadows, tumbled boulders and thick scrub brush create a delicate microclimate that form the foundation of Comando G’s world-class wines. Dani and Fernando are some of the first producers that started importing wine from the early days of Cosecha back in 2016. They farm biodynamically on vines from 50-80 years old, hand-harvesting their grapes grown with minimal intervention
A combination of high altitude, freely draining soils, and a mild and fairly humid micro-climate – for central Spain – guarantees a long growing season and a modest alcohol level in the finished wines. The resultant wines are startlingly pale, extraordinarily aromatic, and intensely flavorful. Each site is harvested by hand, usually in October, fermented by indigenous yeasts in open-top French oak casks, then aged in a combination of 500-700L French oak barrels.
6. Tío Pepe
.
Tío Pepe, a sherry brand created in 1841 by the founder of González Byass and named after his Uncle Joe, Tío Pepe started out as a dry white Fino and now encompasses a full range of sherries, in addition to brandies, vermouths and aged vinegars. They are all produced in Andalucia’s Jerez de la Frontera, where the wine was named after its home and place of production. Tío Pepe’s range includes dry to sweet sherries, historical releases, vermouth, and Brandies de Jerez.
The bodegas are known for their playful spirit, and visitors can take a ride on a miniature red train that transports them between the cellars or observe the real-life drunken mice who climb step ladders to sip sweet Pedro Ximénez from traditional ‘copita’ sherry glasses. Private tours take visitors through the vineyards, winery, bottling rooms, and nineteenth-century aging cellars, concluding with wine and tapas tastings.
7. Bodegas Mauro
.
Bodegas Mauro, founded in 1980 by Mariano García in memory of his father, is a winery dedicated to producing exceptional wines. They prioritize balanced and elegant wines that are intended for aging, allowing the unique characteristics of each terroir and grape variety to shine. The vineyards of Bodegas Mauro cover 90 hectares and feature an average vine age of 35 years. The grapes, primarily Tempranillo but also including minority varieties like Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon, are grown on bush vines in well-filtered calcareous clay soils. The winery embraces organic farming practices and is gradually transitioning to biodynamic methods, ensuring sustainable viticulture that promotes soil longevity and biodiversity.
Situated in Tudela de Duero, in the province of Valladolid within the Duero Valley, Bodegas Mauro enjoys a rich historical backdrop. The winemaking initially took place in a restored 17th-century house, which now serves as an aging facility with underground storage rooms and a historical bottle rack. In 2004, a new winery was constructed just outside Tudela de Duero, boasting a modern and sleek design. Through multiple expansion phases, all production processes, from harvesting to bottling, have been centralized in these state-of-the-art facilities.
8. Jiménez Landi
.
These dedicated individuals are not only committed to nurturing the land but also to preserving the rich tapestry of the local grape varieties. While the Garnacha grape takes center stage in their vineyards, they also pay homage to lesser-known, adaptable grape varieties that thrive in the challenging terroir. The result is a harmonious fusion of tradition and innovation, where the roots of indigenous grapes run deep, intertwining with the fresh shoots of experimentation.
At altitudes ranging from 550 to 650 meters above sea level, their vineyards face the challenges of extreme conditions with resolve. The sandy granitic soils, meager in organic matter and lime, test the resilience of both the vines and the vineyard workers. However, these harsh conditions, coupled with their commitment to ecological practices, give rise to wines that resonate with the true essence of their environment. With a nod to their ancestral traditions and a vision for a sustainable future, this vineyard embodies the art of cultivating the land in harmony with nature, crafting wines that are a genuine reflection of their terroir.
9. Tempos Vega Sicilia
.
Founded in 1864 by Eloy Lecanda and now run by the Álvarez family, Vega Sicilia stands as a timeless beacon in the world of winemaking. Every harvest season is an opportunity to coax the very best from the land and grapes, with the singular aim of crafting wines that are consistently exceptional. The winery’s unwavering dedication to quality is evident in their patient approach, where each vintage is allowed to reach its own state of maturity before being released to the market. Unlike many wineries that follow a set timeline, at Vega Sicilia, the wine itself dictates when it is ready to be unveiled to the world. This commitment to excellence is further underscored by the winery’s strict quality standards; if a particular harvest falls short of these benchmarks, it is simply not produced.

For nearly 250 years, Osborne’s success has been driven by their unwavering commitment to sustainable development, fostering lasting relationships with stakeholders, and respecting the environment. In 2019, they conducted a materiality analysis, aligning their significant aspects in environmental, social, governmental, and economic matters with the Sustainable Development Goals of Agenda 2030.

.
The Torres family, Catalunya’s foremost winemaking family, has dominated wine production in Penedès since the company’s establishment in 1870. They are pioneers of sustainable winemaking, committing to reducing carbon emissions and protecting the environment through the Torres and Earth initiative and as founding members of International Wineries for Climate Change. Visiting the Pacs del Penedès estate, inland from Barcelona, is not only an education in rich vinous heritage but also a glimpse into the future of winemaking.
The iconic Bodega Waltraud, designed by architect Javier Barba, houses the family’s most renowned wines in subterranean cellars. The Legacy Wine Experience offers guests the opportunity to taste some of these directly from the barrels while learning about the estate’s 150-year history. With each bottle, Recaredo seeks to articulate truly honest stories that intricately express the distinctive features of the landscape, vintage after vintage.
The history of Recaredo traces back to 1924 when a visionary winemaker by the name of Josep Mata Capellades embarked on a journey into the realm of sparkling wines. His initiation into the world of winemaking began humbly, working as a disgorger and honing his skills in the craft. Armed with a pick and spade, he embarked on the creation of a cellar right beneath his home in the historic center of Sant Sadurní d’Anoia, a charming town in the province of Barcelona.
14. Altos de Rioja
.

Toro region. Through his vision and expertise, Roberto achieved remarkable success, establishing himself as a prominent figure in the industry. Bienvenido Muñoz comes from a long lineage of esteemed winemakers, inheriting a legacy that dates back to his family’s involvement in the sector since 1940. He has garnered widespread critical acclaim for his transformative work at Bodegas Muñoz in La Mancha. They use indigenous yeasts, avoid racking, and use only minimal amounts of sulfur in their wines. All the processes in the cellar are done by hand, from tending to the vineyards to harvesting the grapes.
