Bodegas Hermanos Sastre
Burgos, Spain
Bodegas Hermanos Sastre, SL, is a winery that has been making waves in the wine industry since its establishment in 1992. Founded by the Sastre family, they embarked on a journey to create exceptional wines from their initial 23 hectares of vineyards. With a deep-rooted respect for the land and a commitment to traditional winemaking practices, Bodegas Hermanos Sastre produces wines of exceptional quality and distinctive character.
At the heart of their winemaking philosophy is the belief that a wonderful terroir is a complex entity. It is not solely determined by factors like sunlight, soil composition, and drainage capacity. Instead, it encompasses a multitude of elements that come together to create a unique and exceptional wine-growing environment.

.
The vineyard at Viña Sastre wineries is situated in La Horra, where small hills oriented towards the Duero and Gromejón river basins concentrate intense summer temperatures, fostering optimal grape maturity. Additionally, the naturally drained soil, thanks to the slope, plays a crucial role in imparting specific characteristics to the grapes.
The Viña Sastre wine style is the result of this exceptional terroir. The wines produced by Bodegas Hermanos Sastre are resolutely rich, dense, and full-bodied due to the early maturity of the terroir. However, they also possess an elegant and distinguished quality, with a purity and freshness that can be attributed to the Tinto Fino grape variety and the perfectly balanced composition of the soils, rich in limestone and sand.

.
The winemaking process at Bodegas Hermanos Sastre is characterized by its simplicity and attention to detail. They firmly believe that the journey of crafting exceptional wines begins in the vineyards. Through natural cultivation methods, eschewing mineral fertilizers, herbicides, and insecticides, they ensure that the land is nurtured and respected. Each type of wine is harvested separately and fermented with its own native yeasts, with temperature control facilitated by tanks equipped with cooling jackets.
Stabilization of the wines takes place naturally, using cold temperatures rather than aggressive physical or chemical methods. The wines are exposed to the freezing temperatures of December and January in La Horra, which can reach as low as 15º below zero. This natural cold stabilization process helps maintain the wines’ integrity and purity without compromising their quality.

.
Following vinification, the wines are aged in barrel rooms until they are ready for bottling. This patient and meticulous approach to winemaking ensures that the wines reach their full potential, expressing the unique characteristics of the terroir and the grape variety.
Bodegas Hermanos Sastre’s commitment to limited production with unlimited care is a testament to their dedication to quality. By adhering to traditional winemaking methods and cultivating the land with respect, they shape the personality and define the quality of their wines. With each bottle, Bodegas Hermanos Sastre invites wine enthusiasts to experience the rich heritage of La Horra and the distinctive character of their exceptional wines.
