Bodega Aranleón

Los Marcos, Valencia, Spain

Aranleón Winery, located in the picturesque village of Los Marcos, Spain, has a rich history that dates back to the year 2000. With a commitment to organic vineyard management and meticulous winemaking practices, Aranleón has become renowned for producing exceptional wines. This article delves into the history and philosophy of Aranleón Winery, highlighting their dedication to quality and sustainability.

In 2000, the founders of Aranleón Winery acquired a historic winery built in 1927. Nestled 100 kilometers west from the Mediterranean Sea, this winery provided the perfect foundation for their aspirations of creating fine wines. The restoration and expansion of the winery in 2006 revealed a hidden gem—a tunnel leading to the past, where they discovered the secrets of winemaking from bygone eras.

At Aranleón, the same level of sensitivity applied to winemaking is extended to the management of their organic vineyards. With four vineyards under their care, they employ meticulous techniques such as hand harvesting and pre-selection in the vineyards. To enhance the aromas, they even harvest over 50 hectares of grapes at night. This attention to detail and commitment to organic practices sets Aranleón Winery apart.

The Winery embraces a combination of traditional and modern winemaking techniques to craft their exceptional wines. Their fermentation process takes place in old tile vats, which have been recoated with epoxy resin. Additionally, they utilize stainless steel vats and carefully selected barrels for specific fermentations. The winemaking team ensures a constant temperature and employs continuous pump overs to achieve a correct maceration, resulting in balanced and expressive wines.

Its design follows a “gravity flow” principle, enabling a gentle and natural flow of grapes and wines. Starting from the entrance at ground level, the grapes descend by gravity to a depth of minus six meters, where the Hungarian and French oak barrels, as well as the bottling line, are located. This unique setup not only facilitates a smooth winemaking process but also preserves the wine’s quality. The underground cellar maintains constant temperature and humidity throughout the year, nurturing the wines to their full potential.

Aranleón Winery’s dedication to quality extends beyond the winemaking process. All their wines are bottled in-house using a state-of-the-art bottling line with a capacity of 1,200 bottles per hour. To allow for optimal development, their most complex wines undergo a minimum of six months of aging in the bottle before being shipped. This commitment to patience and precision ensures that every bottle leaving their winery is a testament to their unwavering pursuit of excellence.

Aranleón’s exceptional wines have garnered international acclaim, with over 90% of their total production being exported. Their portfolio primarily comprises organic wines made from locally grown grapes, such as Macabeo for white wines and Bobal for red wines. One of their flagship wines, the Aranleon Solo Red, pays homage to their beginnings and the meticulous work involved in winemaking.

The snail on the label represents patience—a virtue that characterizes all their endeavors. Through organic vineyard management, meticulous winemaking practices, and a gravity flow winery design, Aranleón has carved a niche for itself in the world of wine.
