Suertes del Marqués is a family winery with a rich tradition in winemaking that dates back to twenty years before its establishment in 2006. Located in the scenic Valle de La Orotava, in the northern region of Tenerife, the winery prides itself on respecting and preserving the island’s viticulture and winemaking heritage, which spans over five centuries. They work exclusively with native varieties and employ traditional vine training methods to produce their wines, ensuring a connection to the local terroir and a commitment to the island’s winemaking traditions.

Emphasizing a minimal intervention approach, Suertes del Marqués seeks to interfere as little as possible in the winemaking process. They use indigenous yeasts, avoid racking, and use only minimal amounts of sulfur in their wines. All the processes in the cellar are done by hand, from tending to the vineyards to harvesting the grapes. Additionally, they refrain from systemic treatments in the vineyards, using natural products only when vine diseases arise, to maintain the ecological balance of their vineyard ecosystem.

The vineyards of Suertes del Marqués are spread over 11 hectares, situated at altitudes ranging from 300 to 750 meters above sea level. These vineyards have different orientations and soil compositions, contributing to the diversity of the wines they produce. In addition to their own vineyards, they collaborate with local growers, cultivating an additional 15 hectares of vineyards with altitudes between 250-800 meters. The vineyards predominantly consist of centenary ungrafted vine stocks of native listan grapes, alongside other indigenous varieties like Vijariego Negro, Baboso Negro, Castellana Negra, Malvasia Rosada, and Volcanic Torrontés. Each variety is cultivated using unique training methods, such as Cordon Royat, Trenzado, or Bush system, further showcasing the winery’s commitment to preserving the island’s wine heritage and producing exceptional wines with a true sense of place.
