Sleep in a Giant Wine Barrel in Portugal And Drink Wine All Day

By WIA2 Mins Read

Owners of the Quinta da Pacheca vineyard in Portugal have launched a new accommodation option where guests can stay overnight in a giant wine barrel.

Imagine waking up in a giant wine barrel in the middle of a vineyard in one of the prettiest wine regions in the world.

Located on the rolling hills of the Douro River valley, east of Porto, Quinta da Pacheca is one of the most prestigious and recognized properties of the Region. It’s one of the most picturesque regions of Portugal and it is a perfect destination for a weekend of wine-tastings, romance and amazing landscapes.

The property owners recently added the 270-square-foot barrel rooms to offer visitors a unique accommodation experience. Situated on nearly 140 acres, the wine barrel guest rooms have a private terrace where guests can sit among the centuries-old vines.

Inside, each room is equipped with a comfortable double bed, a walk-in shower, a skylight to look at the stars, Wi-Fi and air-conditioning. If you prefer a more traditional accommodation experience, you can stay in the estate’s 18th century manor that has been converted into a hotel.

Great Views, Great Wine, Great Food

The region is famous for its cuisine. Douro specialities, such as sardines in citrus and slow-cooked pork cheek, can be found in the estate’s restaurant which offers incredible views on the Douro River and the vineyards.

A Wide Range of Activities

Guests can also participate to a range of activities including wine-tasting, wine and food pairings, cooking classes, picnics, bottling and labeling, grape-harvesting and traditional stepping on grapes.

The Wine Barrels will provide you a unique experience of contact with nature and the monumental reality of the Douro Wine Region.

The estate also provides bikes to ride through the vineyards and boat trips on the Douro River.

Unique Moments Await

Double rooms in the hotel start from €90 ($102), while the wine barrel rooms start from approximately €255 ($289). To book a stay, visit Quinta da Pacheca’s website.
