Quinta do Crasto is a renowned winery in the UNESCO World Heritage region of Douro. The estate boasts a long history dating back to 1615 and is now in the hands of Leonor and Jorge Roquette, its fourth-generation custodians.

The estate features a trapezoid infinity pool designed by Eduardo Souto de Moura, which overlooks the Douro river and offers stunning views of the sloped vineyards from a height of 600 meters. Visitors can enjoy wine and tapas on its terrace, followed by a stay in one of the four intimate guest suites.

The estate produces a range of white and red Douro DOC wines and premium Port from some of the region’s oldest and most historic vines. The two most special cuvées, ‘Vinha Maria Teresa’ and ‘Vinha da Ponte,’ are red blends from old vines and are made only in the best years, with the grapes trodden underfoot once they reach the winery.

Quinta do Crasto also features a century-old manor house and a seventeenth-century chapel, which visitors can explore while admiring the estate’s vineyards and olive groves. In 2013, the winery’s barrel cellar was renovated to enable greater temperature and humidity controls, becoming the first Portuguese winery to use the OXOline barrel management system. Despite such modernizations, the family remains dedicated to preserving the estate’s ecological heritage and is creating a genetic map of the vineyards to maintain its identity and boost biodiversity.
