Domaine St André de Figuière
Provence, France
For over half a century, the Combard family has been synonymous with winemaking excellence, passing down their tradition from one generation to the next. Today, Magali, Delphine, and François Combard proudly carry on their father Alain Combard’s pioneering spirit at Figuière winery, blending heritage and innovation to create extraordinary wines.
The family’s winemaking journey began in the renowned vineyards of Burgundy, where Alain Combard joined forces with Michel Laroche to establish one of the finest wineries in Chablis during the 1970s. However, Alain’s adventurous spirit led him to seek new uncharted territories for winemaking. In 1992, he discovered the enchanting 44.5-acre Saint-André de Figuière estate in Provence, a region known for its rosés.
.
.
Alain firmly believed that Provence rosés deserved a prominent place among the finest white wines. Thus, Figuière was born—a traditional winery that combines time-honored methods with novel winemaking techniques to cultivate a living legacy. Family values lie at the heart of Figuière, united by a shared love for their craft, terroir, and vineyards.
The Figuière style is characterized by its purity, refinement, and strong mineral character, derived from the estate’s schist rock terroir. Embracing a minimal intervention approach, the winemaking process aims to showcase the genuine personality of the unique terroir and the winemaker. The result is a range of wines that harmoniously balance power, finesse, and aromatic complexity.
.
.
While Provence is renowned for its rosés, Figuière extends its oenological expertise to craft exceptional red and white wines. Drawing inspiration from the family’s Chablis legacy, Figuière whites grown in schist soil exhibit outstanding minerality and balance. The red wines, a result of meticulous vineyard work and patient maturation, captivate with their depth and complexity.
In 2016, Figuière introduced a new bottle design that exudes sleek elegance, symbolizing the mineral purity of its wines. The updated label represents the winery’s blending of tradition and 21st-century techniques, showcasing craftsmanship, innovation, and artistry. Figuière stands as a pioneer of superior Provence wines and an ambassador of a new generation of winemakers dedicated to their terroir while shaping the future through a healthy blend of tradition and innovation.
.
.
Figuière’s artisanal approach fosters a sense of community, sharing, and loyalty. Their wines reflect an unparalleled union between Provence and Burgundy, the La Londe terroir, and the mastery of craft winemakers specializing in great Burgundy whites. The result is understated and unexpected wines, playing on contrasts and offering a balanced, authentic, and down-to-earth style that epitomizes natural elegance.
As a traditional winery rooted in time-honored methods, Figuière constantly seeks to cultivate a living legacy. While embracing the latest winemaking techniques, they remain true to their soul. Driven by a pioneering spirit, Figuière continues to open new doors and experiment with brave new blends, forever shaping the future of winemaking in Provence.
