Champagne Cattier
Chigny-les-Roses, France
The rich history of Champagne Cattier can be traced back to 1625 when the Cattier family first began cultivating vineyards in the picturesque village of Chigny-les-Roses, nestled in the heart of the Montagne de Reims region in Champagne, France. Over the course of 12 generations, the winery has been passed down through the family, preserving their passion for winemaking and commitment to excellence.
Today, Alexandre Cattier represents the thirteenth generation of Cattiers, continuing the family legacy as both a vineyard worker and the fourth generation to produce their own champagne. He is joined by his cousin Agathe, the Assistant Managing Director, and Marie, the new brand ambassador. Under the guidance of Jean-Jacques Cattier, the family has propelled Cattier Champagne to new heights, fueled by their hard work, courage, and audacity. Each member of the family has played a vital role in shaping the brand and preserving the inherited excellence that defines Champagne Cattier.

Nestled beneath the family estate in Rilly-la-Montagne, most of Cattier’s cellars provide a home for approximately two million bottles. These cellars, over a century and a half old, bear the traces of history, serving as a shelter for those seeking refuge from the bombs of the Second World War. With 119 steps on one side and 136 on the other, these cellars are among the deepest in Champagne, reaching depths of almost 30 meters.
The cellars boast three distinct styles of arch: Gothic, Roman, and Renaissance, creating a unique atmosphere for the maturation of Champagne. With a constant temperature and protection from disturbances, the cellars provide the ideal conditions for bottles to mature and develop their distinct flavors.
.

.
Champagne Cattier takes full advantage of its exceptional cellars, allowing their Brut Premier Cru to mature for more than four years, surpassing the legal requirement of 15 months. For their most prestigious bottles, a patient wait of over eight years in the cellar is necessary to allow them to fully open and develop their unique aromas, showcasing the meticulous craftsmanship and attention to detail that define Cattier Champagnes.
The vineyards of Cattier have expanded over the decades and now cover an impressive 33 hectares (81.5 acres). Most of the vineyards are located in and around Chigny-les-Roses, Ludes, and Rilly-la-Montagne, in the esteemed Montagne de Reims area. This prime location allows Cattier to cultivate grapes that embody the essence of the Champagne region, contributing to the exceptional quality and character of their Champagnes.
.

.
In addition to their dedication to excellence, Champagne Cattier is committed to sustainable practices. The winery has received various certifications, including the Ampelos mark, which recognizes their strict sustainable farming practices. While following organic principles, Cattier also implements one emergency treatment per year to safeguard the entire crop, ensuring both environmental consciousness and the preservation of their harvest.
Champagne Cattier’s legacy is one of excellence, rooted in the passion for wine and the land that has been cultivated by the family for centuries. Their commitment to preserving and passing on this excellence is evident in every bottle they produce. With a rich history and a dedication to craftsmanship, Champagne Cattier continues to be a beacon of quality in the world of Champagne.
