Paolo Conterno
Ginestra, Italy
In 1886, Paolo Conterno established Casa della Ginestra, a renowned winery specializing in Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto wines. Today, Giorgio Conterno continues the family’s legacy, preserving their deep-rooted passion for winemaking. Located in the captivating Langhe region’s historic “Ginestra” cru, Paolo Conterno Vini stands as a testament to their ancestors’ vision. However, their true treasure lies in the relentless pursuit of crafting the perfect Barolo—a timeless aspiration passed down through generations.
At Paolo Conterno Vini, perfection is more than a mere goal; it is a profound commitment ingrained in their collective consciousness. Each team member contributes to the winemaking process with unwavering dedication, caring for the vineyards meticulously and engaging future generations. With the aid of modern technology, they optimize their operations and find great satisfaction and inspiration in their work. Nevertheless, their craft’s essence remains firmly rooted in tradition, as they continuously strive for excellence.

The winery recently embraced a new challenge in the Piedmont region—the Antico Podere del “Sant’Uffizio.” Surrounded by the enchanting beauty of Asti and Monferrato’s hills, this land encompasses approximately five hectares of loam, clay, and carbonate soil, ideally suited for Barbera, Merlot and Chardonnay production. Moreover, the winery also manages approximately 12 hectares of vineyards in Tuscany, cultivating an assortment of varietals including Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Moscato, Merlot, Sangiovese, and Cabernet Sauvignon.
Situated between 300 and 350 meters in altitude, the vineyards in the the Cru Ginestra benefit from favorable southern and southeastern exposures. Combined with meticulous climate monitoring and abundant sunlight, these factors enable the early maturation of phenolic compounds, resulting in exceptional wines.

Cultivating vineyards on such steep slopes is no easy feat; it requires an intimate understanding acquired through years of familiarity since childhood. Each plant is carefully thinned out and guided with a deep connection to the vines. Paolo Conterno Vini takes personal responsibility for every step of the winemaking process, embodying their commitment to the Conterno family tradition. Their winery, located in the breathtaking beauty of the Langhe, serves as a testament to their heritage.
Within their vineyards, Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto varieties flourish. The unique microclimate, favorable vineyard exposures, and rich tradition of the territory allow them to consistently produce top-quality wines. However, their most cherished inheritance is the concept of the perfect Barolo—a vision passed down through generations. This pursuit of perfection fuels their daily endeavors as they tirelessly work towards fulfilling the Conterno family’s ambitions while remaining steadfast in their commitment to tradition.

Paolo Conterno Vini personally accompanies their wines on their global journey, ensuring that vineyard and wine cellar operations maintain the highest standards. With an annual production of approximately 80,000 bottles, their winemaking facility adheres to traditional methods, utilizing vertical tanks that humidify and break the grape husk crust naturally. The wines age exclusively in 35-hectoliter French oak barrels, preserving the family’s heritage through time-honored practices.
Paolo Conterno Vini invites wine enthusiasts to savor their exceptional wines, which embody generations of passion, dedication, and an unwavering pursuit of perfection. With every sip, one can experience the essence of their family tradition—a legacy crafted to inspire and captivate the senses.
