Baron Longo Winery

Neumarkt, Italy

The Baron Longo winery in Neumarkt has a rich history that spans centuries, reflecting the family’s deep connection to their homeland and their pioneering spirit. Throughout the years, the winery has faced unpredictable twists and turns, but one thing has remained constant: their extraordinary passion for winegrowing.

Since 2015, the youngest descendant of the family, Anton Baron Longo, has taken the helm of the winemaking tradition on the family estate in Neumarkt. For Anton, the focus lies on cultivating a natural and characterful identity for the wines, accentuated by the unique alpine soils and climate, as well as organic winegrowing practices. The winegrowing tradition of the Barons Longo traces its roots back to the 17th century. The ethos of the Baron Longo winery is embodied by the family values of steadfastness, courage, and foresight.

.

At Baron Longo, a largely closed production cycle is embraced, utilizing natural restoratives and beneficial organisms. This approach revitalizes the soil and employs traditional indigenous and robust grape varieties that are well-suited to the specific location. By doing so, the winery conserves natural resources, reduces water and energy consumption, and avoids harmful emissions caused by chemical additives.

The winery also places great importance on promoting environmentally friendly agriculture and preserving a diverse farming landscape. They achieve this through the creation of diverse biotopes, rich in species, and by protecting wild animals. Furthermore, in line with the principle of self-sufficiency, the winery keeps farm animals on the estate, contributing to the harmonious balance of the ecosystem.

.

Through their commitment to diverse biotopes, lush greenery, and the protection of wildlife, Baron Longo embraces nature-friendly management practices and works towards preserving a diverse cultural landscape. The presence of farm animals on the winery, based on the principle of self-sufficiency, further supports this goal.

The winery takes a proactive stance on reducing its environmental impact. By practicing low consumption of non-renewable energy, they avoid the emission of climate-damaging greenhouse gases throughout the entire production chain. Additionally, in response to global warming, new vineyards are strategically planted at higher altitudes, resulting in wines with lower alcohol content. Avoiding the use of artificial fertilizers and chemical substances helps safeguard the soil and groundwater, while the controlled avoidance of genetic engineering ensures the health of the plants without harmful effects on the human organism.

.

The holistic approach taken by Baron Longo encompasses the care of a diverse and thriving cultural landscape. It considers the intricate interplay between nature and people, emphasizing the importance of their employees’ dedicated cooperation. The culmination of these efforts is evident in the wines produced at the Baron Longo winery – individual wines with a distinctive character and a true sense of identity.

With their rich history, commitment to sustainable practices, and dedication to crafting exceptional wines, the Baron Longo winery stands as a testament to the enduring legacy of the Longo family and their unwavering passion for winegrowing.
