Melissa Worrall

DipWSET & Masters of Wine

Beginning her career in her native Barossa Valley, Melissa experienced all facets of winery life from Cellar Door to pruning to pump overs. Now based in London with a Diploma of Wine & Spirits and 15 years industry experience under her belt, Melissa is an MW student and part of the Buying Team at Enotria&Coe. Melissa brings International Judging experience as well as energy and enthusiasm to each panel she contributes to.

Melissa has tasted wines many of us could only dream of sharing a continent with, let alone drinking, and is well on her way to being one our industries top global experts. That’s why we decided to take this opportunity to pick her brain about all things U.K. markets, wine education, judging and industry insights.

To Melissa the perfect wine expresses energy, enthusiasm and place, whether that be a young, fresh Chenin Blanc from South Africa or an elegantly aged Barolo from Piedmonte.

The Institute of Masters of Wine is the home of exceptional expertise in the wine world. What started 70 years ago as an exam for the UK wine trade is now a globally recognised title collectively held by a worldwide family of Masters of Wine. Today, there are over 416 MWs based in 31 countries, each making their own contribution to the world of wine. Becoming an MW means entering a unique wine community; one that brings enriching personal and professional opportunities, as well as lifelong friendships.

The “DipWSET,” or Diploma in Wines and Spirits, is a prestigious Level 4 qualification offered by the Wine & Spirit Education Trust (WSET). This comprehensive program is designed for wine and spirits professionals, as well as serious enthusiasts, who are eager to deepen their knowledge and expertise.

Through rigorous coursework and examinations, students explore a wide range of topics, including viticulture, vinification, wine regions, spirits production, and global wine markets. Upon successful completion, graduates are equipped with an advanced understanding of the wine and spirits industry, allowing them to excel in their careers and become respected authorities in the field.
