Lava Cap, a third-generation family farm in Placerville, sits high in the Sierra Nevada foothills at 2700 feet elevation. Their grapes, grown in California’s highest vineyards, thrive in unique volcanic soils, resulting in intensely aromatic wines bursting with flavor. The Sierra Nevada mountains’ volcanic history shaped Lava Cap’s extraordinary terroir.

By purchasing a special volcanic site, the Jones family established their vineyard and winery, aptly named Lava Cap. This volcanic soil contributes to the distinctiveness of their wines. Lava Cap’s vineyards, located at elevations ranging from 2400 to 2700 feet, offer a mountain setting that sets their wines apart. The combination of elevation, complex topography, and volcanic soil creates vibrant alpine wines that define Lava Cap.

People can become part of the extended Lava Cap family by joining their Friends of Lava Cap Wine Club. It is possible to choose between the Quarterly and Semi-Annual Club options for regular wine deliveries. No enrollment fee is required, but a minimum of two shipments for the Quarterly Club and one shipment for the Semi-Annual Club is needed to avoid cancellation fees.
