Château Anthonic
Moulis-en-Médoc, France
At the heart of Château Anthonic lies a profound passion for life and a commitment to the principles of biologically-driven viticulture. Led by Jean-Baptiste Cordonnier, the estate’s deep-rooted belief in the “logic of biology” has propelled them on a journey towards organic winemaking. With a focus on agroecology and agroforestry, Château Anthonic has embraced a holistic approach to vineyard management, creating wines that showcase their unwavering dedication to sustainable practices.

Jean-Baptiste Cordonnier’s unwavering dedication to organic winemaking has its roots in his childhood. From an early age, he was captivated by the beauty and intricacies of life in all its forms. These convictions were passed down to Théophile and the entire team at Château Anthonic, guiding their actions long before the official organic conversion of the vineyard began in 2016. The decision to embrace organic practices was a natural extension of their deep-seated belief in the harmony between nature and winemaking.
Since achieving organic certification for the 2019 vintage, Château Anthonic has not rested on its laurels. They have used this milestone as a catalyst to push the boundaries of organic winemaking further. Recognizing the benefits of agroecology and agroforestry, the estate has gone beyond the requirements of organic farming. By integrating diverse planting and cultivation methods, they have nurtured a vibrant ecosystem within their vineyards. The presence of cover crops, hedgerows, and beneficial insects contributes to soil health, biodiversity, and natural pest control.

.
Château Anthonic’s dedication to organic excellence is reflected in the wines they produce. The certified organic vineyards yield grapes that are imbued with a sense of vitality and purity. The resulting wines are a true reflection of their terroir, expressing the unique characteristics of the Haut-Médoc region. From vibrant fruit flavors to the subtle nuances derived from a healthy ecosystem, these wines captivate the senses and tell the story of sustainable viticulture.
The wines of Château Anthonic are a reflection of the estate’s unwavering commitment to quality. Their flagship offerings showcase the classic Bordeaux blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc. These wines exude elegance and finesse, with black fruit aromas, silky tannins, and a harmonious balance of flavors. Whether enjoyed in their youth or after careful cellaring, Château Anthonic wines captivate the palate, revealing layers of complexity and a lingering finish that leaves a lasting impression.
.

.
In 2022, they acquired Château Lestage-Darquier Grand Poujeaux. They have initiated a quality-focused strategy, commencing with the meticulous assessment of each parcel’s potential and transitioning to organic farming and agroforestry practices. This approach is further enhanced by gradual aging techniques that honor the distinct characteristics of the soils, alongside a strategic distribution plan to ensure premium positioning in the market.
Château Anthonic stands as a shining example of organic winemaking and a champion of agroecology and agroforestry. Driven by a deep respect for the “logic of bio(logy),” Jean-Baptiste Cordonnier and his team have created a vineyard ecosystem that embraces nature’s intricacies. Through their commitment to sustainable practices, Château Anthonic crafts wines that embody the true essence of their terroir while nurturing the environment for future generations.
