In 2010, Pedro Merayo fulfilled his lifelong dream by establishing Bodegas y Viñedos Merayos after dedicating 20 years to the recovery and maintenance of his vineyards. With a deep passion for winemaking and a profound love for the Bierzo region, Pedro’s experience and knowledge in the wine sector culminated in this remarkable project. The Merayo family has always had a strong connection to the world of wine, owning one of the most prominent wineries in the region for decades.
However, in the late 1980s, Pedro Merayo made a significant decision to take a break from winemaking. He focused his efforts on caring for and maintaining the family vineyards. As the late 1990s brought about great changes in the wine industry, with the creation of new wineries, modernization of existing ones, and the development of winemaking techniques, Pedro and his family decided to return to their winemaking roots.

The family resumed winemaking in the winery located on their family estate, Finca Miralmonte. The driving force behind this decision was their strong commitment to producing quality local varieties. They wanted to bring forth the essence of the region and showcase the unique characteristics of the Bierzo wines.
One of the core values at Bodegas y Viñedos Merayos is their commitment to the environment. All their wines are crafted exclusively from their own grapes, following the principles of sustainable agriculture and viticulture. They prioritize gentle and non-aggressive practices, avoiding the use of herbicides. Instead, they utilize techniques such as plowing and land-clearing to ensure the health of their vines and maintain a rich diversity ecosystem.

The vineyards at Bodegas Merayo, including la galbana, el llano, las tres filas, el músico, and el pozo, are located within the heart of the family’s property, Finca Miralmonte. The winery itself is surrounded by 10 hectares of land where various wine-related activities take place.
The main building of the winery serves as the production and vintage areas. It boasts spacious and modern premises, well-equipped with the latest technology to care for the wine throughout its production. The production area features a range of stainless steel tanks, varying in size and capable of holding up to 200,000 kg of grapes each harvest. These tanks are equipped with automatic temperature control systems to stabilize fermentation temperatures.
