HALL Napa Valley

St Helena, California, USA

Kathryn and Craig Hall have embarked on a remarkable journey in the Napa Valley, creating a destination that seamlessly combines winemaking excellence, artistic expression, and captivating architecture. From their humble beginnings in their family’s vineyards in Mendocino, Kathryn Hall always had a vision of a place where exceptional wines would be showcased alongside breathtaking art and masterful design. Today, that dream is becoming a reality at HALL St. Helena.

In 2003, the Halls acquired the historic St. Helena Bergfeld Winery, which had a rich history spanning 150 years. This location was once the home of the Napa Valley Co-Op, responsible for producing 40% of the region’s wines. With great care and dedication, the Halls transformed the winery into HALL St. Helena, re-opening its doors in July of that year. They restored the 1885 Bergfeld Winery and added California’s first LEED® Gold Certified winery, a striking Visitor Center, and a state-of-the-art gravity flow winemaking facility.

Adding to their portfolio, HALL Rutherford was purchased in 1995 and officially opened its doors in March 2005. Nestled within the legendary Sacrashe Vineyard in the hills of Rutherford, HALL Rutherford boasts a state-of-the-art winery dedicated to producing single vineyard and limited-production wines. Both HALL St. Helena and HALL Rutherford offer visitors a remarkable wine country experience, where they can savor award-winning wines, immerse themselves in stunning contemporary art, and indulge in picturesque vistas.

Spanning over 500 acres, HALL’s estate vineyards are home to classic Bordeaux varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Sauvignon Blanc. As committed winegrowers, the Halls hold great reverence for the environment and employ cutting-edge vineyard technology to cultivate the highest quality grapes. Through meticulous attention to detail, HALL wines beautifully reflect the unique character derived from Napa Valley’s diverse soils and climate. Guided by the expertise of winemaker Megan Gunderson, HALL Wines continues to raise the bar for Napa Valley winemaking, reaching new heights of excellence.

The foundation of HALL’s winemaking lies in the vines and the land they thrive on. The team at HALL takes great pride in sourcing the finest grapes from the Napa Valley. Roughly half of the grapes used by HALL come from their own estate vineyards, while the other half is carefully selected from vineyards throughout the valley. The viticulture team at HALL diligently seeks out the best grapes available, ensuring the highest quality in every bottle.

HALL’s estate vineyards span a diverse range of terroirs, from ancient riverbeds on the valley floor to sun-drenched hilltops. Encompassing approximately 150 acres, these vineyards have been strategically chosen based on elevation, microclimates, and soil types, all in pursuit of crafting exceptional varietals. Director of Vineyard Operations, Don Munk, and his viticulture team practice small-vine farming, resulting in low-yield, highly concentrated fruit.

Each vineyard block is managed with meticulous attention to detail, taking into account the varietal, terroir, clone, rootstock, and row orientation. Organic farming practices are employed to ensure vineyard health and the expression of optimal fruit character.

In the world of wine, HALL stands as a testament to the harmonious union of craftsmanship, artistry, and the bountiful gifts of nature. It is an invitation to discover the wonders that unfold when passion, innovation, and the beauty of Napa Valley converge in perfect harmony.
