Gramercy Cellars
Walla Walla, WA, USA
In the bustling streets of Manhattan, where dreams are conceived and ambitions soar, an encounter with some extraordinary Washington State wines set in motion a remarkable journey for one sommelier. Inspired and captivated, he made the audacious decision to sell everything and relocate across the country, with a single-minded mission to create his own exceptional wines. And thus began the story of Gramercy Cellars, a winery that would go on to redefine the standards of winemaking in Washington State.
Upon arriving in the picturesque town of Walla Walla in 2005, the Harrington family set out to craft a unique fusion of old-world charm and new-world innovation with their Rhône and Bordeaux varieties. Their vision was to harness the near-perfect growing conditions near Walla Walla to produce some of the most highly regarded wines in the region. The fruits of their labor are wines that exude intensity yet remain restrained, embodying elegance with a touch of earthiness.
.
The foundation of this delicate balance lies within the vineyards themselves. Nestled within the Walla Walla and surrounding American Viticultural Areas (AVAs), Gramercy Cellars benefits from the ideal climate and soil conditions necessary to create their desired wine styles. With meticulous care, the winery sources grapes from old vines, ensuring that each grape is nurtured to its almost-peak ripeness and, whenever possible, cultivated using organic methods.
Gramercy takes pride in owning three estate vineyards and meticulously controls several others, ensuring that the grapes are grown and harvested with utmost precision to achieve the distinctive profile that defines Gramercy wines. Notably, many of their wines, particularly the Rhône, are single-vineyard estate offerings, showcasing the unique terroir of each site.
.

.
Inside the winery, the Gramercy team approaches winemaking with meticulous detail, employing minimalist techniques and an unwavering commitment to quality. Each fermentation is thoughtfully designed, taking place in concrete or oak vessels, always with patience and a light touch. The result is a portfolio of wines that embody honesty and complexity, wines that effortlessly complement a variety of cuisines and possess an undeniable ability to age gracefully.
It is no wonder that Gramercy wines consistently receive outstanding reviews, cementing their status among the finest that Washington State has to offer. Gramercy Cellars’ pursuit of excellence extends beyond their winemaking practices. They are also deeply committed to sustainability and environmental stewardship. Through sustainable viticultural practices, such as organic farming methods, careful water management, and the use of cover crops, Gramercy strives to preserve the land and its resources for future generations. This commitment to the environment not only ensures the long-term viability of their vineyards but also contributes to the overall quality and character of their wines.

.
In the world of wine, Gramercy Cellars stands as a testament to the power of passion, determination, and a relentless pursuit of perfection. From the moment that Manhattan-based sommelier tasted those Washington State wines, the Harrington family and their dedicated team have remained true to their vision of crafting exceptional wines that embody balance and finesse.
Through their unwavering dedication to the vineyards, meticulous winemaking techniques, and uncompromising commitment to quality, Gramercy Cellars has firmly established itself as a beacon of excellence in the ever-evolving landscape of Washington State wines.
