Champagne Jean Pernet

Reims, France

The first traces of wine-growing in the family ancestry of Maison Jean Pernet can be traced back to the 17th century. However, it was in 1947 that the story truly began, when Domaine Jean Pernet emerged from a humble family vineyard in Mesnil Sur Oger, situated in the heart of the prestigious Champagne region on the Côte des Blancs, renowned for its Grand Cru terroir.

In 1959, Jean and Huguette Pernet laid the foundation of Maison Jean Pernet, leveraging their inherited expertise and know-how that had been passed down from generation to generation. Their bold and innovative decision to introduce the first-ever “champagne Jean Pernet” label marked the birth of the modern-day Champagne Jean Pernet brand.

The early 1980s saw the arrival of the two sons, Frédéric and Christophe Pernet, who joined forces to push the boundaries of Champagne production. The family estate flourished under their guidance, and today it covers an impressive 17 hectares (40 acres) across the communes of Le Mesnil sur Oger, Vertus, Chouilly (all renowned for their first growth areas for chardonnay), as well as the traditional vineyards of Epernay, Chavot, and Leuvrigny.

At its inception, the cellar produced approximately 15,000 bottles per year. However, as the years passed, this number grew exponentially, reaching an impressive 120,000 bottles annually. A remarkable achievement! Moreover, the Maison Jean Pernet brand currently exports 85% of its production to no less than 30 different countries, making its mark on the global stage.

Every bottle that bears the Maison Jean Pernet label tells a story of hard work, elegance, craftsmanship, and finesse. The creation of each bottle is a collaborative effort, drawing on the inputs and ideas of family members who bring their unique skill sets to the table. This cherished tradition will continue to be passed down to future generations, ensuring that the legacy of Maison Jean Pernet lives on.

The exceptional bubbles of Champagne Jean Pernet are rooted in the art of terroir selection, which spans the finest crus of the Champagne region. The bespoke vinification by terroir and vintage is made possible through a fleet of steel vats that allow the wine to evolve naturally. The secret savoir-faire of blending, passed down through the generations, maintains the distinctive quality that is synonymous with Maison Jean Pernet across all their cuvées.

Maison Jean Pernet embraces sustainable viticulture practices, ensuring utmost respect for the environment and the preservation of the terroir. Natural organic fertilizers, limited use of pesticides, meticulous pruning, and the implementation of qualitative cover cropping create a haven for biodiversity in their vineyards.

The dedication to excellence is reflected in the numerous awards that the Maison Jean Pernet vintages regularly receive at regional, national, and international levels. These accolades testify to the high quality of their wines and the recognition they garner from discerning wine enthusiasts worldwide.

As Maison Jean Pernet continues its journey, it remains firmly rooted in its heritage while embracing innovation and sustainable practices. With each bottle produced, the Pernet family shares their passion, craftsmanship, and love for Champagne with the world.
