Domaine Masson-Blondelet
Pouilly-sur-Loire, France
Domaine Masson-Blondelet, established by Michelle and Jean-Michel Masson in 1975, holds a rich history of winemaking. The family’s commitment to quality and their pursuit of the purest expression of Sauvignon Blanc on the unique and preserved terroir of the Loire Valley has made them renowned in the industry.
Located in the heart of Pouilly, the estate boasts a buried cellar constructed in 1980, spanning three levels to facilitate gravity-based winemaking. In 2000, Mélanie and Pierre-François, the couple’s children, joined the family business, representing the seventh generation of winemakers at Domaine Masson-Blondelet.

The estate encompasses 21 hectares of vines planted with Sauvignon Blanc and Pinot Noir on the slopes of the finest terroirs in the Pouilly-Fumé appellation. These vineyards face south/southeast and enjoy a micro-climate shaped by the nearby Loire River, which is classified as a natural reserve at this location.
What sets Domaine Masson-Blondelet apart is their steadfast commitment to environmentally friendly practices. They have refrained from using chemical fertilizers for over four decades, and since 2002, they have completely eliminated herbicides and insecticides from their vineyards. The regular tilling of their soils plays a crucial role in promoting the expression of their three distinct terroirs within Pouilly-Fumé over the past thirty years.
.
.
The Pouilly-Fumé appellation is famous for its three renowned terroirs: Kimmeridgian Marl, Flint, and Hard Limestone. At Domaine Masson-Blondelet, each soil type is planted with Sauvignon Blanc, and the grapes are vinified separately, a practice they have followed for over forty years.
“Les Angelots” is their Pouilly-Fumé harvested from Villiers’ limestone soils. “Villa Paulus” comes from the Kimmeridgian Marls, and “Les Pierres de Pierre” is harvested from flint soils. Furthermore, the special cuvée “D’Or et Diamant” represents a limited production of only 2000 bottles. This exquisite wine pays homage to the golden hues of the Loire River at sunset and the preciousness of their terroir, comparable to a diamond. It has already found its place on the most prestigious tables across France and Europe.
.
.
Domaine Masson-Blondelet’s commitment to excellence extends to their Sancerre wines as well. The vineyards, situated in Thauvenay, are planted on limestone and flint soils, producing white, rosé, and red varieties. In the cellar, the winemaking philosophy at Domaine Masson-Blondelet revolves around prioritizing physical treatments over chemical interventions, including minimal use of sulfur. Their aim is to maximize the impact of human intervention, which they believe plays a vital role in crafting the soul of their wines.
With a strong focus on meticulous vineyard management and an unwavering pursuit of perfection in their winemaking process, Domaine Masson-Blondelet delivers personalized and exceptional Pouilly-Fumé and Sancerre wines. Visitors to the estate are invited to savor the wines and immerse themselves in an unforgettable tasting and touring experience.
