Château Saint-Esprit

Provence, France

The Château Saint-Esprit, situated at a historic crossroads for wine transportation, has witnessed the passage of centuries. Located between the Via Aurelia, connecting Italy to Spain, and the Via Julia Augusta, serving the inland regions, this esteemed vineyard has played a vital role in the wine trade since ancient times. The strategic location and exceptional terroir have even led to the establishment of Roman wine-producing villas, making the Provencal vineyard one of the oldest in the world, with traces of plantations dating back over 2500 years.

The story of Château Saint-Esprit begins with Philippe Pares, a music composer and ardent wine enthusiast. In the early 1950s, Philippe acquired his first vineyard property in Provence, becoming a precursor to four generations of winemakers and enthusiasts in his family. His passion for wine extended beyond the vineyards, instilling an enduring interest in arts and culture within the family lineage.

In 1955, Daniel and Gisèle Crocé-Spinelli took the reins of the family vineyards, dedicating themselves to the production of fine wines. With their vision, the vineyard expanded, and they acquired a remarkable twenty-five-hectare property: the Château Saint-Esprit. Since then, this esteemed château has become a vessel, revealing the essence and heritage of the Crocé-Spinelli family’s wines to enthusiasts worldwide.

Today, the legacy of Château Saint-Esprit is carried forward by the third generation, represented by Richard and Hélène Crocé-Spinelli, and the fourth generation embodied by Mathilde and Florent. Rooted deeply in the winemaking tradition of this place, their passion for viticulture continues to flourish. Each sip of Château Saint-Esprit wines is an invitation to embark on a captivating journey through time, immersing oneself in an ancient culture that has stood the test of time.

Terroir, the essence of Château Saint-Esprit’s winemaking philosophy, holds paramount importance in crafting their exceptional wines. The terroir of Château Saint-Esprit is one of the most distinguished in Provence, meticulously cared for to express its true identity. With unwavering commitment, the vineyards are cultivated with the utmost respect for nature, abstaining from the use of pesticides or herbicides. This conscientious approach allows the unique characteristics of the terroir to shine through each bottle.

The choice of grape varieties further enhances the quality and distinctiveness of Château Saint-Esprit wines. Mirroring the terroir’s identity, the grape varieties—Grenache, Cinsault, Mourvèdre, Syrah, and Rolle—exude a captivating Provençal character, accentuating the wines’ true essence.

The red ochre clay-limestone soils from the Triassic period lend a unique geological composition to the vineyards. The clayey portion, enriched with ferruginous elements, bestows depth and texture to the wines. Meanwhile, the stony limestone section, which the vines skillfully draw minerality from, imparts complexity and finesse.

.

.

The geographical location of Château Saint-Esprit further adds to the distinction of its terroir. Perched on a small mountain at an altitude of 300 meters, the vineyards benefit from a multitude of orientations and a microclimate influenced by both the Mediterranean Sea and the hills of Haut-Var. The diurnal variation of dry, mild days and cool nights creates the ideal conditions for grape maturation, resulting in wines of unparalleled quality.

The finesse and complexity that grace each bottle of Château Saint-Esprit wines are a testament to the vineyard’s unique identity and terroir. Every sip unravels the captivating tale of ancient traditions, a symphony of flavors that captures the essence of this extraordinary place.

As you indulge in the wines of Château Saint-Esprit, allow yourself to be transported on a sensorial journey, an exploration of history, culture, and nature intertwined in every drop. Experience the heritage and time-honored craftsmanship that make Château Saint-Esprit wines an unparalleled expression of the Provençal vineyard’s soul.
