The Delaire Graff estate offers a luxurious escape with breathtaking views of Stellenbosch’s famed vineyards, Table Mountain, and False Bay. British jeweler Laurence Graff OBE opened the estate in 2009 after six years of development. The property includes a five-star hotel, spa, two restaurants, three stores, an art collection, and a highly advanced gravity-fed winery that produces exceptional Bordeaux blends and single varietal whites from prime spots.
Delaire, which translates to “from the sky,” sits high on the slopes of Botmaskop peak. The property features a botanical garden with over 350 plant species and water features, and a series of exclusive lodges each with its own terrace and plunge pool. The lodges are decorated with distinct South African artwork handpicked and curated by Laurence Graff from his personal collection. The Owner’s Villa, the newest and most luxurious lodge, boasts interiors by David Collins Studio, a private chef, butler service, infinity pool, and Jacuzzi.
The estate’s winemaker, Morné Vrey, produces an esteemed selection of cool-climate wines from the estate’s 20 hectares of vines. The north-facing aspect offers ample sunshine for richness and concentration, while high altitude and maritime influences provide freshness and acidity. The wines include excellent red blends dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon, impressive single block Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Shiraz, and a 100% Cabernet Franc rosé. The estate also produces a Chenin Blanc from 35-year-old bush vines in the increasingly esteemed Swartland region, to the north of Cape Town. A sweet “Sunburst” wine made from late-harvested grapes affected by Noble Rot is also available.
The estate’s two restaurants offer an array of contemporary South African food and Cape Malay cuisine. The Delaire Graff Restaurant features bright orange leather banquettes, while Indochine showcases a swirling flock of over 1,300 suspended Perspex swallows. The estate’s spa offers a botanical scrub made from the estate’s flora and massage and pampering services.
From the panoramic views to the exclusive lodges and art collection, the Delaire Graff estate is an indulgent retreat offering the best of luxury living and South African hospitality.
