Bodegas Garciarévalo

Matapozuelos, Spain

Jose Antonio Arévalo and Benicio Garcia joined forces in 1991 to establish their winery, uniting their families and their passion for winemaking. Their aim was to produce exceptional wines using grapes from the renowned vineyards in Matapozuelos, known for its excellent verdejo grapes.

Their philosophy centers around creating wines that truly represent their origins, capturing the unique characteristics of the soil, climate, and traditional winemaking methods. They also embrace new technologies and advancements in the industry. The entire winery team, including the winemakers and vineyard managers, is dedicated to achieving excellence and staying true to their values. They strive to share their life and work philosophy with their valued customers worldwide.

The vineyards in Matapozuelos have sandy soil with low organic matter and limited water resources. This environment leads to smaller grapes that have concentrated flavors and a perfect balance of alcohol and acidity. The winery benefits from a unique microclimate due to its location between two rivers, resulting in lower temperatures compared to surrounding areas. This temperature difference between day and night contributes to the distinct flavor profile of their wines.

The winery focuses its research and development efforts on this specific region, using rare ancestral clones of the verdejo grape variety. By harnessing these unique grapes, they aim to create wines that truly capture the essence of Matapozuelos.

The recognition and accolades received by Garciarévalo Winery are a testament to their unwavering dedication and passion. In 2019, the Spanish Federation of Oenologist Associations awarded their wine, Tres Olmos Lías, the prestigious Great Golden distinction in its second edition. Additionally, their Harrena 2016 was honored with a silver medal at the renowned Mundus Vini awards that same year.

Heading the winery is Antonio Arévalo, who has been involved since its inception in 1991. He initially began by working in the wine cellar and vineyards, eventually taking on management and commercial responsibilities. Antonio currently serves as both the winery manager and commercial representative, leveraging his 20 years of experience in winemaking and a three-year background in management and business administration.

Reyes Martínez-Sagarra, the oenologist, plays a pivotal role in embodying the unique personality of Garciarévalo wines. With her oenology license and infectious enthusiasm, she ensures that each bottle reflects the essence of the winery.

Rodrigo Arévalo, the agricultural foreman, oversees the management of the vineyards, while Manuela Arévalo, with a postgraduate degree in industrial relations, takes charge of administrative tasks and client relations.

Enrique Arévalo works alongside Rodrigo in vineyard management, while Jose Maria and Ignacio serve as wine merchants.

For those interested in experiencing the magic of Garciarévalo wines firsthand, the winery welcomes visitors to explore their facilities and embark on a personal journey through the D.O. Rueda.

Garciarévalo Winery’s unwavering commitment to producing exceptional wines that reflect their heritage, coupled with their dedicated team, sets them apart in the world of winemaking. With their focus on quality and respect for tradition, they continue to captivate wine enthusiasts around the globe.
