Cloudy Bay

In 1983, a momentous encounter took place that would forever change the world of wine. David Hohnen, an intrepid wine enthusiast, had his first taste of Marlborough Sauvignon Blanc. The experience left an indelible mark on him, igniting a passion to capture the essence of Marlborough and share it with the world. This encounter set the stage for the birth of Cloudy Bay.

Two years later, in 1985, Hohnen partnered with talented winemaker Kevin Judd to establish Cloudy Bay. Their vision and dedication quickly gained international acclaim, propelling New Zealand wine to the forefront of the industry. The flagship Sauvignon Blanc of Cloudy Bay became synonymous with exceptional quality and put Marlborough on the map as a world-class wine region. The following years saw Cloudy Bay’s journey reach new heights as it joined forces with Veuve Clicquot in 2003 and became part of the prestigious LVMH family in 2010.

Cloudy Bay’s legacy, rooted in Marlborough, extends far beyond its initial Sauvignon Blanc. Today, the winery’s portfolio includes remarkable expressions of Chardonnay, Pinot Noir, and Pelorus méthode traditionnelle sparkling wines. Embracing the spirit of exploration, Cloudy Bay ventured further with two special offerings. Te Koko, a barrel-fermented Sauvignon Blanc, pushes the boundaries of tradition, while Te Wahi, a sophisticated Pinot Noir from Central Otago, showcases the winery’s commitment to excellence.
