Château Roquefort
Bordeaux, France
In 1976, a love story began when Jean and Christiane Bellanger discovered the enchanting Château Roquefort, breathing new life into this remarkable vineyard located in the Entre-Deux-Mers region. They were captivated by its charming terroir and rich historical legacy. At the time, the estate belonged to Alain de Condé, a descendant of the House of Condé and a close friend of Maurice Druon, renowned French author. While the vines had disappeared during the 20th century, the artist had meticulously preserved the 18th-century spirit and perfect harmony of the chartreuse house.

Jean Bellanger embarked on the revival of Château Roquefort by replanting the vineyard and collaborating with the Bordeaux Faculty of Oenology to adopt the best winemaking methods. In 1983, 30 hectares were replanted, and the estate commenced winemaking activities in 1987.
Christiane Bellanger, originally from Bordeaux and an art enthusiast with impeccable taste, undertook the restoration of the estate’s ancient buildings, honoring their historical significance and preserving their spirit. In 1995, their son Frédéric, fueled by the same family energy, assumed control of Château Roquefort and continued expanding the estate. Today, it covers an impressive 240 hectares, seamlessly integrating vineyards with the surrounding forest, fields, and meadows.

Frédéric Bellanger’s unwavering commitment to biodiversity is driven by the belief that the true potential of heritage can only be unlocked by listening to the terroir and respecting the innate generosity of nature. With a dedicated team, he constantly strives to improve the quality of the wines and create exceptional new cuvées. Recently, his wife Anne joined him in their shared mission to uphold the estate’s soul, paying homage to its history and traditions while embracing responsible and expert winemaking practices.
Both driven by their passion for wine and the natural products that tell our history and culture, Frédéric and Anne aim to introduce the world to the unique terroirs of Château Roquefort. These terroirs, where the art of living, history, and heritage converge, create an environment of excellence. Grape varieties are meticulously selected and planted across the estate, matched to the specific terroirs and exposures, allowing the extraordinary potential of the region to shine.
.
.
For red and rosé wines, the estate boasts 70 hectares comprising Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, and Cabernet Franc. The white wines showcase two prominent Bordeaux grape varieties, Sauvignon Blanc and Sémillon, covering 26 hectares. The delicate work of blending these varieties harmoniously brings out their unique aromas and structures.
Château Roquefort wines are the culmination of passion and expertise. They represent the Bellanger family’s unwavering dedication to their craft, showcasing the essence of the terroir and delivering unforgettable tasting experiences. Through their wines, Frédéric and Anne Bellanger invite wine enthusiasts worldwide to savor the fusion of good living, history, and heritage that defines Château Roquefort’s exceptional character.
