Château Loudenne

Loudenne is a charming winery with a 350-year-old history, enriched by the contributions of two British merchants: Alfred and Walter Gilbey. In 1875, these connoisseurs of the finer things in life chose Loudenne as their French residence. The strategic location of the Loudenne port allowed them to ship wines by sea to London and distribute them globally.
The Gilbey family, followed by the company they established, dedicated 125 years to building the vineyard’s reputation, transforming Loudenne into an iconic destination for hospitality and entertainment. The château, known locally as “Le Chateau Rose” due to the color of its walls, was originally constructed in 1670 by a Bordeaux noble family.

As of March 2022, Château Loudenne has returned to French hands. Wine enthusiasts Sophie and Christophe Gouache, owners of Château Bellerive in Valeyrac, have taken up the reins of Château Loudenne with the aim of establishing it as the ultimate benchmark for Médoc wines worldwide. Their vision is to reposition Loudenne as a symbol of glamor and modernity.
The estate’s idyllic location amidst nature transports visitors back to the romantic ambiance of the Roaring Twenties. Loudenne proudly embodies this identity, combining the elegance of traditional craftsmanship with the innovation of modern techniques. The meticulous care given to the wines reflects the château’s distinct personality and is evident in its environmentally conscious practices. In 2022, the vineyard obtained Organic Agriculture certification, while it has held the highest level of the High Environmental Value certification since 2017.
