Pauillac, France

The name “Batailley” comes from the french “Bataille”, for “Battle”, that took place in 1453 between the French and the English on the lands of the future estate. Château Batailley is one of the oldest residences in Pauillac. In 1855, Chateau Batailley was classified as the Fifth Grand Cru of the Médoc, thanks in particular to the improvements made by Daniel Guestier.

Since 2002, a program has been established to ensure the excellence of the estate’s wines. In 2006, the renewed vat house allows for parcel-based vinification. As Château Batailley flourished at its best, Lions de Batailley, the château’s second wine, was launched in 2015, and in 2019, Pauillac de Batailley, the third wine, completed the offer.

Pauillac, a port city, considered the wine capital of the Médoc, is located on the left bank of the Gironde in southwestern France, between the appellations of Saint-Estèphe and Saint-Julien. The AOC Pauillac, recognized since 1936, brings together 37 wine estates including 18 Grands Crus Classés which represent 85% of the production, including 3 Premiers Grands Crus Classés (Châteaux Lafite-Rothschild, Latour and Mouton-Rothschild), but also Crus Bourgeois and Artisans. The terroir of Pauillac is planted with Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, Carménère and Malbec on a gravel soil with more or less sand.
