Cascina Adelaide

Barolo, Italy

Founded in 2000 at the foot of the medieval castle of Barolo, Cascina Adelaide stands as a tribute to Amabile Drocco, who, in 1962 at the age of 60, left his successful mechanical company to devote himself to his passion for viticulture. This act of love and respect for the Langhe region marked the beginning of a new chapter in the Drocco family’s history.

In January 2021, Amabile’s granddaughter, Chiara, joined Cascina Adelaide immediately after completing her engineering degree, marking the entry of the third generation into the winery. Her fresh perspective and deep love for the Langhe and its fruits, instilled by her grandfather, guide the winery into the future while honoring its rich heritage. One of the most striking features of Cascina Adelaide is its underground cellar. This innovative space, bounded by a small stream at the convergence of two slopes, is hidden beneath a heavy glass blanket. As visitors approach, they can catch glimpses of the grape processing and fermentation, a visual testament to the transformation from grape to wine.

Cascina Adelaide boasts 12 hectares of vineyards, with 10 hectares dedicated exclusively to Nebbiolo da Barolo. The estate encompasses eight historical “cru” vineyards spread across five different towns within the Barolo area. Each vineyard offers a unique microclimate and soil composition, contributing to the diverse expressions of Barolo produced by the winery. The remaining 2 hectares are planted with traditional varieties such as Barbera, Langhe Nebbiolo, Dolcetto di Diano D’Alba, and Nascetta. Nascetta, the only white grape variety cultivated by the winery, is an ancient indigenous grape from the Novello area, adding to the rich tapestry of Cascina Adelaide’s offerings.

Cascina Adelaide’s wines are a harmonious blend of tradition and innovation. The winemaking process is meticulously overseen to ensure that each bottle reflects the unique characteristics of its vineyard. From the elegant and age-worthy Barolos to the vibrant Barbera and the rare Nascetta, every wine is crafted with a deep respect for the land and a dedication to quality. The underground cellar, with its state-of-the-art facilities, allows for precise control over fermentation and aging. The result is wines that not only capture the essence of the Langhe terroir but also embody the passion and expertise of the Drocco family.
