Baudry-Dutour

Val de Loire, France

The story of Baudry-Dutour is a testament to the power of friendship, shared values, and a deep-rooted passion for winemaking. It all began in 1993 when Christophe Baudry, the owner of Domaine de la  Perrière in Cravant les Coteaux, welcomed Jean-Martin Dutour, a recent graduate, to take over the management of Domaine du Roncée in the Chinon region. Little did they know that this encounter would lay the foundation for a remarkable journey ahead.

Christophe and Jean-Martin quickly formed a strong bond, united by their love for winemaking. They shared not only their tools, capabilities, and talents but also their dreams and aspirations. In 2003, their complementary strengths gave rise to Baudry-Dutour, a collaborative winemaking enterprise that would redefine their craft.

Drawing on their extensive experience as winemakers and their active involvement in local collective organizations, Christophe and Jean-Martin began questioning the intricate relationship between humans and wine. They recognized that wine is not just a product but a profound connection between people and the land. It is a two-way street: humans influencing wine and wine enriching the lives of humans.

With a keen eye on the future, they understood the challenges faced by Artisan Winemakers. The urgent need to adapt to climate change necessitated a fresh perspective and a departure from traditional practices. Quality became their guiding principle, striking a delicate balance between the demands of the industry and their commitment to producing wines of exceptional character.

Remaining faithful to the legacy of Rabelais, a native of Chinon renowned for his passion for food and wine, Christophe and Jean-Martin embraced complementary roles to share their culture with the world. At Château de La Grille, they embarked on an ambitious project to restore the vineyards and the park, breathing new life into the historic residence while preserving its original spirit. From exclusive tastings to private events, visitors were invited to explore the captivating world of Baudry-Dutour, immersing themselves in the art of winemaking in the enchanting Val de Loire.

In 2020, the duo took their dedication to wine and culture to new heights. They transformed an old shop on Rue des Cordeliers in tours into a haven for book and wine enthusiasts. The warm and inviting space offered their full range of wines alongside a carefully curated selection of over 1000 books covering various culinary subjects, from wine and gastronomy to literature.

Located in the heart of Centre, France, Baudry-Dutour stands as a testament to the power of sustainable viticulture. They specialize in a variety of grapes such as Cabernet Franc, Chenin Blanc, and Sauvignon Blanc. Grounded in agronomy and documented scientific knowledge, their approach seeks to protect the environment, the winemakers, and the consumers. By prioritizing soil health and employing practices such as cover cropping, Baudry-Dutour ensures the longevity of their vineyards while maintaining the delicate balance between cooperation and competition, a fundamental principle of permaculture.

Under the guidance of Philibert Valente, the cellar master, the winery’s efforts extend to the cellar, aiming to reduce inputs, including sulfur, and promote a holistic winemaking philosophy.

Baudry-Dutour embodies the spirit of collaboration, innovation, and sustainability. Their journey is one of unwavering commitment to producing exceptional wines while preserving the heritage and integrity of the land. With each bottle, they invite wine lovers to experience the fruits of their labor and the richness of their shared passion.
