Atibaia

Batroun, Lebanon

Located in the picturesque mountains of Smar Jbeil, just 30 km north of the ancient city of Byblos, lies Atibaia, a winery with a rich history and a commitment to producing exceptional wines. The story of Atibaia begins in 2007 when the founders decided to plant vines of Cabernet Sauvignon and Syrah on their 1-hectare estate. Little did they know that this land would yield wines of outstanding quality.

The soil at Atibaia is a treasure trove of minerals, enriching the vines and adding complexity to the wines. In addition to their main vineyard, Atibaia also cultivates another vineyard nearby, spread across a series of terraces. These terraces face northeast, embracing the gentle touch of the morning sun. It is here that the Petit Verdot grape variety thrives, alongside the Syrah and Cabernet Sauvignon.

Diversity is the key to Atibaia’s winemaking philosophy. The winery also cultivates a third vineyard near Mrah el zeyet, known for its clay-rich soil. This area experiences a relatively cooler climate, shielded from the maritime influences. Each vineyard imparts its unique character to the wines, creating a harmonious blend of flavors.

Atibaia takes pride in its meticulous winemaking process. Every detail, from the vineyard installation to cellar renovation and vine growth, receives uncompromised attention. Even the choice of high-end corks reflects their dedication to quality. It is this unwavering commitment that has earned Atibaia recognition as a boutique winery of exceptional standing.

Situated in a rustic 17th-century house, Atibaia’s winery exudes charm and authenticity. Surrounded by lush vineyards and breathtaking nature, it offers a tranquil setting for wine enthusiasts to indulge in their passion. The wines produced at Atibaia undergo an aging process in the cellar, ranging from 4 to 6 years, before they are released to the market. This patient approach allows the flavors to intensify, resulting in wines with a perfect balance of alcohol, acidity, and texture.

The dedication and craftsmanship of Atibaia have not gone unnoticed. In 2021, Atibaia was ranked the 65th best vineyard in the world, a testament to their unwavering commitment to excellence. The winery’s journey from neglected terraces to flourishing vineyards has been a labor of love, a testament to their determination to revive the land and create wines that capture the essence of Smar Jbeil.

As you savor a glass of Atibaia wine, you’ll experience the culmination of centuries-old traditions and modern winemaking techniques. Let the flavors transport you to the heart of the mountains, where nature and expertise come together to create a truly remarkable wine experience.
