Vignobles Arbeau

Midi Pyrenees, France

In 1878, the Arbeau family’s ancestors embarked on an extraordinary path. They made a bold choice to cultivate the challenging soil, unlocking the exceptional quality and diversity of its produce. At that time, the practice of polyculture thrived, encompassing wheat, animal fodder, gherkins, and even broomsticks. However, it was the vine that danced in their hearts, guiding their journey.

The Frontonnais region had long been celebrated for its wine making traditions, satisfying the insatiable thirst of Toulouse. As the 20th century dawned, France found itself in need of alcohol, and Pierre Arbeau foresaw the demand. He established a monumental distillery in Labastide-Saint-Pierre, while nurturing the vineyards surrounding the family’s treasured jewel, Château Coutinel, acquired in 1920. This estate thrived on an exceptional terroir, characterized by fine siliceous alluvial deposits, known as “boulbènes,” intermingled with pebbly gravel and sand.

Then, Jean-Claude Arbeau emerged, breathing new life into the family’s wines. Introducing estate bottling, he transformed them into respected crus, capable of making their mark on the world stage. Despite the growth, one thing remained constant: the essence of family. From tending the vines to conducting trade, the Arbeau legacy continued to thrive in Labastide-Saint-Pierre.

As the 21st century unfurled, Anne and Gérard Arbeau took the reins, infusing their wines with the spirit of the times. With unyielding entrepreneurship, unwavering determination, and an enduring enthusiasm passed down through generations, they propelled their wines to soaring heights, captivating palates both near and far. In recent years, their focus shifted back to the land, recognizing that the terroir is the heart and soul of their wines.

Embracing sustainability, the Arbeau vineyards transitioned to organic agriculture, honoring the harmony between the Mediterranean sun and the cool Atlantic breeze. In the cellar, minimal intervention allows the superb grapes to speak for themselves, preserving the natural delight that arises from the fruit.

Labastide-Saint-Pierre beckons with an alluring trio of reds, rosés, and whites. Each glass is designed to evoke the desire for another, an instinctive pleasure that should flow effortlessly. The Arbeau family believes that enjoying wine is a universal experience, whether it is found in the humblest of bottles or the grandest of grand crus.

Their wines reflect the confluence of their birthplace, with a tapestry of grape varieties flourishing within their vineyards. From the emblematic Négrette of Fronton, representing the robust reds of Toulouse, to the timeless Bordeaux blend of Cabernet and Merlot, the native Rhône Valley Syrah, the regal Côt (or Malbec) of Cahors, the vibrant Braucol from Gaillac, and the playful Gamay of Beaujolais, the Arbeau selection offers a universe of flavors to captivate every palate.

Classic blends like the revered Château Coutinel, along with regional treasures like Villerose from the Frontonnais and Villerouge from Gaillac, proudly showcase the appellations of the South West. Delightful varietal wines such as Négrette, Braucol, Gamay, and Côt, whether bearing the distinction of IGP or AOP, spotlight the intrinsic fruitiness nurtured by the terroir. For effortless enjoyment, there are easy-drinking options like Bacchus, an IGP Comté Tolosan, or Diane, a Vin de France. To enhance accessibility, an extensive range of Bag-in-Box (BiB) offerings ensures that the pleasure of Arbeau wines can be savored by all.

The Arbeau family’s unwavering dedication to winemaking spans generations, harmoniously blending tradition and modernity. With each bottle they produce, they invite wine enthusiasts on an enchanting journey through time and terroir. Their labor of love and devotion culminate in a unique experience that captures the essence of their exceptional wines. So, raise your glass and embark on a voyage of discovery, where the essence of Arbeau wines intertwines tradition, passion, and terroir.
