Domaine Pascal & Richard Jaume

Vinsobres, France

The Jaume family has a rich history that dates back to the early days of winemaking in the Rhone Valley. It all began with Henri Chauvet and the Baron Le Roy, who were responsible for the origins of this appellation. Since 1905, the Jaume family has passed down their winemaking expertise from father to son, ensuring that their passion and tradition are perpetuated for more than a century. Pascal and Richard continued the family legacy in the eighties, and today, Anthony, Vincent, and Audrey represent the fifth generation, joining the family story.

From the very beginning, the Jaume family understood that the soil was not a simple medium but a living source of energy. For over 25 years, they have taken the utmost care of their vineyard, employing reasoned, sustainable, and responsible vineyard management practices. By creating harmonious conditions for the coexistence of the earth and vegetation, they ensure that balance is maintained in the soils. The Jaume family places great importance on highlighting the typicity of their terroir while maintaining full respect for the environment. This approach guarantees the quality and expression of their wines.

Situated in the pre-Alps, the Jaume family estate spans 100 hectares in Vinsobres, a renowned Côtes-du-Rhône Cru in the Drôme Provençale region of southern France. The village faces the majestic Mont Ventoux, creating a picturesque backdrop. By carefully selecting the finest terroirs of the Rhone Valley, the Jaume family produces outstanding wines that are aged in their own cellars. This choice reflects their commitment to environmentally respectful methods that consider the individual characteristics of the terroirs, to which they are particularly attached.

The Jaume family’s focus lies in capturing the freshness of the terroir to produce high-quality, pleasurable wines that reflect the typicity of their estate while expressing the unique character of each terroir. Through their wines, they share their wonderful discoveries with wine enthusiasts.

Vinsobres, located in the heart of the southern Rhone Valley, boasts a rich and varied terroir due to its altitude. The association of noble grape varieties such as Grenache and Syrah produces a highly nuanced palette of AOC Vinsobres wines. Crozes Hermitage, on the other hand, is characterized by its admirable diversity and constant winds that temper the summer heat, resulting in favorable weather conditions year-round. The vineyard on the Mercurol hills, with its red clay soils, provides the perfect expression of Syrah.

Gigondas is a highly renowned appellation that is considered the cradle of Grenache grown at altitude. Situated at the foot of the Dentelles de Montmirail, the vines of the Jaume family’s selection grow on a unique, structured soil of grey limestone, surrounded by stunning landscapes. The Saint Joseph region, known for its granite and vertiginous slopes, is where the Jaume family has selected their vines on the right bank of the Rhone. The Syrah vines here benefit from a temperate and well-ventilated climate.

In line with their commitment to environmental sustainability, the Jaume family holds the HEV (High Environmental Value) certification. Regulated by the French Ministry of Agriculture, this certification ensures that the estate maintains significant elements of biodiversity, including hedges, buffer strips, trees, flowers, and insects. It also guarantees that the impact of agricultural practices on the environment, such as air, climate, water, soil, biodiversity, and landscapes, is minimized.

Through their dedication to winemaking and responsible land stewardship, the Jaume family has established themselves as custodians of their terroir and the Rhone Valley’s winemaking heritage.
